Recently been going through Dan Aykroyd's films because while I am so familiar with his bigger movies, I am very unaware of a lot of the other films he has starred in. A lot of the movies he did in between his big hits are very off the beaten path. The best I can say of some of them is that he was willing to try something new. Loose Cannons has got to be the bottom if you ask me, but many of the others surprised me. Celtic Pride I had not seen since it came out, and I found genuinely funny. Exit to Eden is bizarre and I am not sure how that got made. I also enjoyed Doctor Detroit. I have to agree with Siskel on it being a "genial mess".

Nothing But Trouble is a long time favorite. Great fish out of water comedy mixed with a splash of Beetlejuice.

I still have other movies to check out, but I will say I always enjoy Aykroyd's presence on the screen. Its a shame he isn't in more these days, but that seems to be the way of things with these older stars. No room for them in the endless morass of superhero movies. Here is hoping we see him in the upcoming Ghostbusters.

He kinda went crazy and bad, IMO, but I very much resonated with his point of view in the 80s and I’m more willing to give him a chance than most of his contemporaries. I’ve seen most of what he’s done. I can’t imagine getting excited about anything with Chevy Chase or Steve Martin in it again but Dan...Dan can still maybe surprise me once in a while.

Going crazy is an understatement, dude thinks Aliens will never contact us because of 9/11

Lots of actors are crazy or just bad people. I try to pay no attention to that stuff.

Dan was on the Joe Rogan podcast very recently.
He was propping his Tequila company pretty hard.

He does go off on quite a few tangents about visitors..........

If your curious about his latest activities and mindset check that podcast......

Cheers mates

No way. I’d rather listen to an hour of Dan Aykroyd’s most insane butt dial rants than hear ten more seconds of Joe Rogan.

Yeah he is a bit strange, but I like him as an actor and comedian, not for his personal interests or hobbies.

I would see a Steve Martin film if he had a new one (Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a personal favorite). Maybe its just me being nostalgic for the comedies from the 80s.

I've seen this a few times and I hated it. I should rewatch it, if not for Demi

Steve Martin has made dozens of movies since 1987, many of which suck. Now he does that banjo thing people pretend to like for some reason. He’s extremely lame now. I gave up after Big Momma’s House and Sgt Bilko. I have nothing against him, but he’s kinda sucky and over the hill now.

To be fair, I should see that Netflix thing though because Martin Short is and has always been brilliant.

Point taken, though I feel films like Sgt Bilko were Martin in his decline, whether that decline was him not getting good role offers or him taking the biggest check for bad projects, I don't know. Either way I always enjoyed Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, All of Me, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Roxanne and Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

A very fair summation.

Around the time that Bilko was released in the UK Paul Kaye as Dennis Pennis asked Steve Martin: "How come you're not funny any more?" Steve Martin then cancelled all the arranged UK press & promo interviews. Paul Kaye did say that "anyone who thinks they can improve on Bilko and Inspector Clouseau needs a slap don't they?" which may have been a fair point.

A little childish perhaps but I do have a bit of a soft spot for The Jerk, have not seen it for quite a few years though.

Instead of cancelling interviews he should have cancelled those movies.

Martin has made several of my favorite movies of all time, particularly The Jerk and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. I do sort of wonder why he isn’t funny anymore too...usually people are funny for life. Even if they experience life changing tragedies funny people will make jokes on their death beds. It’s not like being able to shred guitar or run fast where you eventually lose it all. He seems to have his brain and he hasn’t gotten old/mean so why no funny?

Those movies we all like had a lot of other talented people involved. Maybe we were too eager to credit Martin with everything. Perhaps they were just magic moments period. Extremely magic. I keep a cork on a fork in my kitchen just so I can tell when people come over if they are cool or not.

(Cool people will mention the fork but not loudly or in a large group).

Steve Martin is an OG of SNL and I think still funny with the banjo stuff. Show some respect.

Akroyd, Chase, Murphy, Candy, Belushi, Short, and everyone from that era are untouchable legends to me. They were what my dad watched and I saw as so cool and adult in '80s as a kid.

Their successors, the '90s era of SNL/American comedy were my generation. MacDonald, Sandler, Myers, Carvey, Farley even Spade and Schneider and that era of Letterman are also so untouchable to me.

Picked up a bottle(Skull?) of Crystal Head vodka since the last time this thread popped up, Dan might be a little nuts but damn this is some fine vodka.

Always meant to try his vodka, but never got around to it. Not a big vodka drinker, I prefer scotch. But the bottle is very cool.

In all honesty most high end vodka's taste exactly the same- like nothing.

I'll most likely fill the skull up with some Tito's after it's through.

That is what I have been told and most unflavored vodka does not have a strong flavor profile, at least to me.

Vodka seems like something you buy for the high abv. I've always preferred Scotch or even Bourbon.
