If we can believe http://www.dutchaudioclassics.nl/the_complete_d_a_dac_converter_list/ then it has the same DAC processing as a CLD-3030 or CLD-99S.

Since the CLD-3030 is in your signature, you basically have the same CD player twice :-)

If it isn’t a compact laser disc then what sort of compact disc is it?

Well conversely it's a disc and it's read by a laser, that makes it a laser disc, right?

Yes. Much like Blu Ray is a High Definition Digital Versatile Disc, or HD DVD for short. :lol:
