I also agree with je280.

At one point I started to collect Pioneer stuff even if I wasn't going to use it but now I just have what I want to use and maybe spares for the LDs. I suppose its whatever you really want and want to keep so that is what I collect here are some

Deep Benbe. Yep the way I see it we're all building our own personal lifetime archive of gear and media..I dunno about you but the quest for satisfaction has saved me so many times in my life. When I got no one and nobody there's always something I want to listen to, watch or seek out. That keeps me going.

Some people not like us say that stuff is just a burden (and it is with all the things you mentioned, moving, lack of space, equipment failures, repairs etc etc). They say that you should have experiences instead (they mean travel) but what we have gives an experience of course. The experience of audio and video the way we want it.

For prerecorded movies and music I buy whatever is cheapest. For music, 8-track is my go to. For movies, Laserdisc and Blu-Ray are my go to.

Now another hobby of mine is watching the raw, unedited, "film" of a production. It's like watching the uncensored outtakes and deleted scenes. I say "film" in quotations because when I view it, it is on U-Matic (Sony VO-1800U), Type C Videotape (Sony BVH-1100), Half Inch EIAJ-1 (Sony AV-3600), and I even have the RAID drive used in the post production of "The Helpers." It's what I enjoy, so it's what I collect. Watching content no one has seen for decades and will never seen again has always been intriguing to me.

So if you're after collecting formats truly unique, I would highly suggest pursuing professional formats.

Here are examples from my collection of professional formats missing from Tasuke's photo.

From left top to right bottom: Scotch U-matic S (small), Sony DVCAM, Sony Type C Videotape, 6TB RAID Drive (as mentioned in my previous post), and Panasonic half inch EIAJ-1 Video tape.

It was barely a thing in the US, the only market where it came out.

Also agreed, but I'm sure True Lies is gonna come out on blu-ray eventually.

my local SEARS carried D-VHS back in the early/mid-2000's, the JVC HM-DH30000U, and perhaps a handful of cassettes.

too little, to late, i suppose, as JVC desperately clung to the sinking ship of the VHS Videocassette form factor
that was ultimately their only real claim to fame, -never mind the occasionally-terrific Hi-Fi gear they fielded in the 80's-

You are absolutely right! I agree 100 %! Very well said.

That is the difference between Japan and China. I spent three years of my life in China learning Chinese and working. I was surrounded by bad
music the entire time, whether it was on the bus, at school, in the malls, in the clubs, etc. Only bad music. I lived in Dalian at the time and I was
able to pick up a couple of South Korean radio stations on FM ( despite a difference of 300 km ! ) and the music was like heaven compared to
the Chinese crap I was exposed to everywhere. Japan and Korea are so much cooler. The only place in China I truly love is Hong Kong but that is not
really China. Even the music there is better than in the rest of this country. There are some fine Cantonese tunes from the 80s.
It is not that I dislike China. But there were some things I really did not appreciate over there, bad music being one of them.

Well I of course collect blu-rays, because if you collect current movies, what are you going to buy them on besides digital downloads?

Other than that, I kinda sorta collect HD-DVD, but I haven't gotten another one in a while.

Kinda sorta collect Betamax movies, but those are few and far between.

As for audio, I collect CDs, SACDs, DVD-Audio and vinyl, but I get more of the first and last items of the four.
