I don't have the measuresments of my gear or anything so. is this too short to put things on like LD players [on the top] and possibly other gear or laserdiscs underneath.

I suppose if this doesn't work I'll have to use a Lack table for the player either LDS2 or CLD-79

The Kallax standard fits 12” discs perfectly. Players can be deeper than that though so I can’t say for certain about that.

Players will be ~17" deep I think. Maybe 19". Without accounting for air circulation.

Players can get much deeper than that but on average that’s probably about right. The feet will be likely fit with lots of overhang.

So the top would be fine as the feet is stable with some of the sides hang off? I'm having to get a stand for the la players which hopefully doubles as having storage for LDs or something else.

Measure your player. IKEA publishes dimensions for everything. My guess is that the top will be big enough for the feet but I’ve never put a player on one of these shelves and I don’t know what player you have.

I'll have to wait measuring but just thinking for a CLD79 and or LDS1 but I might have to use a lack table. But might not have the space. Waiting at the moment on a new place.

Go Muji, I found Ikea stuff always has weird dimensions. Muji has better quality control, made in Japan and wears better if you move too. My muji shelving fits my LDs perfect but also allows a little headroom for boxsets. Their steel frame rack shelving is properly built for hi fi, modular and will just last longer than that Ikea stuff.

Also into the measurements you have to factor how far the cable-stocks stick out, unless you have 90 degree RCAs. Won't matter for all players.
Less important if the shelving won't be directly against the wall (wainscoting or any other cause).
If it won't, then you could clamp a deeper board to the top of the shelf from behind and not have to worry about the LD's feet teetering.

Wainscoting generally runs to the height this shelving would be (unless there's wainscoting that's like knee height but I've never seen it that low), skirting would be the thing that pushes shelves out from being flush against a wall. All wainscoting I've ever seen has skirting board though. Just thought maybe you got confused, if not carry on :)

It's expensive that I can't afford.

The pulp board stuff pictured at the bottom is dirt cheap, cheaper than that Kallax stuff you're looking at. The steel rack shelving might run more than Ikea but so much better suited to hi fi gear.

Anyway I'm not an advocate for Muji, it's just one option that's better than Ikea, there are others. but anything is better than Ikea in my opinion, their stuff is just cheap and nasty, poorly designed and the shopping experience is a nightmare.

the US site is different and has nothing but the expensive shelving. Also shipping would be expensive compared to IKEA but the Kallax is multi purpose. But I may not even go with it as I don't have the place yet.

planning to get another shelf mainly music on top and laserdiscs on the bottom so basically 2 of the above like one long piece.
this time the question is would below be more sturdy for gear on top than getting 2 of the individual square and put them side by side?
if I get below I might have to order it online and get it delivered since I know I put the small one in the car just don't know about the longer bigger one.
