Does anyone know of a DVD player that allows you to change the style of subtitles? (things like color, size, position, etc.) I'm assuming such a thing is possible, because they aren't super-imposed, but I don't know if they're limited by the DVD standard or something.

well, from what i can find on google, there isn't a dvd player that will do it for you, but, if you watch dvds on your computer, there is a dvd playback program called VLC that will allow you to change the subtitle style/size/font etc.

the other things i found were mostly people trying to put subtitles on a dvd that they had authored, which can be done, but i doubt if its something that can be edited on a standard movie dvd you get from a store. that's just what i found, there may be some player out there that allows you to do this, but it sounds like VLC may be your best bet. i've used the program before for basic dvd playback on computers i've built that didn't have the windows media codec to play back dvds, and it works very well. best of all, its free.

good luck!

I use VLC for most of my media, it's a good, lightweight player.

Power DVD also allows you to alter the look and position of subtitles.

Correct me if I'm wrong but most of VLC's - or any player's - subtitle options have effect only to soft subs (ie. separate subtitle files like .SRT or .SUB used in addition to encoded video material or subtitle tracks embedded into file container). You can't make any font-related changes to DVD subtitles on the fly as they are stored as graphics instead of text, some players let you adjust positioning but that's pretty much it: If you want to have different font face/color/size it basically requires ripping, editing and remastering the whole thing using suitable software utilities.
