A couple of months ago I had heard that one of my favourite films was being considered for a remake, it was among the lists of titles that get announced but 99% never even get to the pre-production stage - looks like this one is now in pre-production. Two Lane Blacktop Action, Drama, Thriller Status ... Pre-production 1972 TWO BOYS EMBARK IN A RACE ACCROSS ROUTE 66. Now the real story begins as the 1970's opens up to us in music and time. Director: Justin Lin ... (Optioned) Writer: Jay Hopper Cast Matt Cornett ... Dennis Pia Mia Pia Mia ... Laurie Pitbull ... Warren Jasmine Jessica Anthony ... Amethist Kristen Hardimon ... Maria Guadalupe TWO LANE BLACKTOP is based on the 1971 cult classic film; this time with a hugely reformed script, plot and dialog. Pop culture 1970 songs and events of the time period are tightly integrated in the film. A kaleidoscope view of America's heart and soul at this moment in time. Not only is this a good film, it's a wonderful look back in time to the full era. I really hope that it gets no further than this. I am not against remakes per se but some things should be left as is & this is one of them. Two Lane Blacktop was a unique piece of filmmaking, how can it possibly be remade? I could go on & on here but I will just end up ranting. Two Lane Blacktop was & is a stand alone feature & I truly believe it should remain as that. I could be being a little unfair though, is it just me perhaps? |

Yeah, remakes suck almost every single time. If the original is silent and 18 minutes long, perhaps it’s forgivable. This movie being remade fills me with a few thoughts...first off, there is virtually nothing to remake as this movie barely has a script and almost nothing even happens. So in that area it would be as much of an opportunity for creativity as a brand new movie. Presumably the goal of the producers is to find some swoon worthy talent that will get people pawing themselves. The car will be fully licensed and miss the point completely ala Bumblebee in Bayformers. The OST will be two discs of licensed stuff that is %33 great, %33 horrible, and %33 not in the movie. They may try to get James Taylor to play GTO’s dad. Basically they are turning 2001 into Forrest Gump. What a pointless pursuit...I’m sure it will make two people super rich. I wish nothing but misfortune on this project. I hope it’s as laughably out of touch as Bohemian Rhapsody. The skirts will be the wrong length, people will have post-internet levels of awareness of current events, GTOs car will be accidentally cooler than the heroes. Everyone will talk waaaaaaay too much. There will be massively too much music but no score. |

Recently Sofia Coppola decided to do a remake / reimagining of her masterpiece: Lost in Translation called: On the Rocks. That movie was utterly awful and unquestionably by Apple’s demands was filled with very in your face identity politics. The only good thing about the movie was: Bill Murray. Everything else I simply want to forget. |

Out of the reams and reams of remakes out there, the only one I can think of where most people I've talked to prefer the remake to the original is Ocean's Eleven. (Note, I don't count Ben Hur as a remake because it's not a remake to have separate attempts at adapting the same source material.) |

I can't think of any where I prefer the remake off hand but there are some remakes I enjoyed. As long as it isn't remaking anime into live action. That never works. |

I have seen all of these movies and I’ll probably never see them again but for sure I prefer the remake. This is mostly because I feel that Frank Sinatra was a !%#* who probably should have done prison time so I don’t really feel like celebrating how successful he was. It would be like watching a Bill Cosby movie now...or a Tom Cruise movie in ten years. |

To tell you how many wheels are spinning in my head and how fast...I actually knew that. I Googled before I made the joke, but I decided after knowing this that the joke had to be left as it was or it wouldn’t work as well. |

Well they are also smart now to make these sequels with names that trick people into thinking these are the first films made. No more rocky II III IV V etc. |
