Post subject:  I hate google
just spent the some hours trying re setup everything I had when it just stop working and my passwords and settings disappeared. it was working fine yesterday but this morning I try to log into gmail I have to go to a recovery one just gain access to the main 2. it vanished my info to login. ugh I hate this but I'm so dependent on it.

This is why I never let google save any of my passwords, never got the feeling it was a good idea and sort of glad I never did.

That's the problem with trying to quit google. Don't like youtube's new policies? Well too bad becuase none of your favorite content creators are on a youtube alternative. Don't like how google collects data with their search engines? Well too bad because non google search engines seem to never find the right results. At least if you don't like the ram hogging chrome you can use Edge or Firefox.

Google is only good for few things:

Maps
Translate
search engine
YouTube.

Nothing else.

Duckduckgo is really a no go for any non english speaker. Finding non english results is just so much harder with duckduckgo when compared to google. That is a big reason why I have not been able to make the switch.

Youtube used to be good even just a few years ago. But I would say ever since 2016 or 2015 it has become worse. The fact that I have used at least 5 different plugins in less than a year, just to keep the old site outlook around is infuriating.

Avoid Alphabet as much as possible. As for search, Searx is best.

Had to setup my mother with a different PC last year as her old one died. Google is such a horrid company! She went to login to her Gmail account and it tells her Your logging in from a unknown location, please use 2-step authentication to recover your account.". Well, we never setup 2-step authentication. So their blasted account recovery system never worked. Two weeks of utter non-sense and numerous attempts at contacting Google's Account Support team only to be told the account is unrecoverable because it was our fault for never setting up 2-step authentication. Mind you, we knew the password, and we had a second e-mail on file for account recovery! But oh no, that's not good enough for Google. So my mother lost her primary e-mail account over purely nothing!

After all these years of google abuses, I quit. I cleaned out my emails, saved what I needed, and deleted the rest. My old android phone was on it's last leg, so I bought a refurbished iPhone and threw the android away. I closed my google account and opened an email account at Proton based in Switzerland. I love it!

I'd have just got a cheap Pixel 3a or 4a and put Graphene or Calyx on it rather than an iPhone.

Not to defend google. But I really like their Google Voice service. You can pretty much control calling regardless of where you are and call forwarding. Free calling and free telephone number.

For passwords, I use bitwarden to manage everything. A lot safer than giving all your passwords to a company.
