Post subject:  Pioneer Reference Disc - help needed!
Pioneer STILL sell this Reference Disc (GGV1069) - it's precious and most think it's better than Video Essentials... if you have to repair/test/align a laserdisc player, this is a must-have-one!!!

this is the link: http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com/part.asp?productNum=GGV1069 - only 39,95US$!!!

But only authorized dealers (or old not-dealer customers) could buy it!

Are here some Pioneer dealers, or former Pioneer retail customer, who could buy the disc for me (and maybe also for someone else interested in)?
Obviously I'll pay the disc price and all the shipping.

This disc is used for allignement of players that include color bars, video output levels etc...


Should be used with the test remote GGF-1067

Got both of them now. let's see what this thing can do :)
I have a unit to mess up anyway... :wtf:

I can get these test discs GGV-1069 new factory sealed straight from Japan. enough copies available ... :clap:

I'm about to find out in the coming week if there are other test discs available factory sealed. :think:

How much would a brand new sealed test disc GGV-1069 be worth to anyone?

well, if pioneer is selling them for 48 bucks here in the US then i think that's about as much as you can get for them.

also the disc from what you posted is worthless unless you have the remote needed to use the disc.
i personally think that for 50+ bucks i would rather send my player to someone and have them do the testing and fix/tweek whatever else needed to be done to get it in tip top shape.

after trying to get a CD player fixed i'm just going to stick with getting my player fixed by someone who knows what they are doing.

This is the absolute truth. But hey, isn't video essentials worthless? The Thx demo, Dolby demonstration discs, dts demo discs ... they are worthless to me anyway :o
They look cool and that's about it.

Got myself the service remote some time ago. don't think it's a must have but could come in handy at some point in the future.
I bought the discs because I can get it new and sealed. As far as repairs go until this day there was not one player that couldn't be repaired.
I'm a patient man and always on the lookout to learn a few things about a laserdiscplayer. if I can not find the problem I simply put the player out of sight until some idea or good advice comes around.
A worthless disc? nothing like a rare japanese title I agree :| but then we could say all discs are worthless if they never get out of the closset imo.
that's the fun in collecting. some are worthless, some are priceless , to each his own.
X-Men is worthless to me as a must have collection title. Don't like the movie in General so I do not feel the need to have it around. Sold it the day I bought it :o
I know for sure that many collectors would pay a reasonable price for X-Men ... to me it's another ld title . Nothing more nothing less.

I'm not about to open up a test disc shop btw :crazy:

worthless, not valueless.
if you have all the gear needed and know how to use it then it's not "worthless"
for me it would be, also i only have 1 player so if i paid someone 50-100 to get it setup the disc wouldn't be worth it for me.

but if i had lots of players and needed to do repairs etc then i would look into geting all the stuff i needed.

for me i have too many things that i repair so i don't want to do that with LDs, i personally want to enjoy them and just pay someone else to do the work on it.

Well, service remote is pretty easy to replace with Pronto or any other programmable remote. The calibration discs are slightly more difficult to copy.

I recently picked a bundle of discs which included Pioneer test disc GGV 1012 (8") as well as Pioneer Tuning Fork #12 (order #GRT1028) 124 page engineers manual
Very interesting but way too techy for me :o

Julian has a section for manuals. Maybe you can scan this in and send it to him? It would make a nice addition to the Manual section of this website and may help other out in the future.

I dont actually have a scanner however i could borrow a mates, on the back of the book it says copyright 1994, dont want to appear paranoid but would i be breaking any rules by scanning this? happy to help the laserdisc community if i can :thumbup:

I don't think that would be an issue. There are dozens of manuals posted on this site for laserdisc players and other gear and there are no issues. If you tried selling them then maybe it would a problem but otherwise it's fine.

do you really think anyone who will answer the phone if you called would know what an LD is??

i had an elite receiver at one time and called them about how to hook up my LD player to it.
they said to just get a new one with HDMI :lol: :lol: :lol:

(it's almost Halloween, so I might as well do a bit of Thread Necromancy to get in the spirit...)

I'm interested in getting Tuning Fork #12 up on the manuals section, if anyone has it and can get it to me. (I got the three video tuning fork LD's and they reference it)

Also it looks like GGV1069 may be a bit harder to get in the US now, thanks to the Partocolypse... Pioneer might still have it in stock at least, but it's not in pacpart's direct inventory.

Another tidbit - I got an older 12" service disk off eBay with the flyer, and it says not to use it for determining player resolution since the video is low-pass filtered.

Anybody has a GGV 1003 (ntsc) and a GGV 1007 (pal) to sell?

I need them for my pioneer CLD a100 and LD-v 4300d

Ps= also a GGV 1069 would be the same (as frames)?
