Post subject:  Sylvania VP7200 questions
So third time is the charm getting a working player. I'm still playing around with it and learning about it. I wonder if anyone here has familiarity with this model.

Obviously it's an older model, all the outputs on the back are primarily coaxial. For best results and ease should I pick up an RF demodulator? And I know a lot of newer discs have digital audio and from what I read this thing does not decode CX so I would assume I'd need a CX decoder. Certain discs that have an analog soundtrack play just fine though.

I want to make this one work as best as possible so if I need a couple extra devices to do that I'm all for it. Thank you.

Don't know this player, but I wouldn't bother with the CX decoder I would spend that money on getting another player.

This player may have been made before digital, I did a search and see what player it is but didn't pay attention to year.
You will still get the audio but in analog only except on certain discs that don't have audio on the analog tracks, like some AC-3 discs where one channel is for the
AC-3 and the other may be commentary.

But then you could add an AC-3 out but then again you need an AC-3 decoder and then you are going down a massive rabbit hole of parts to get this player
to work with the my guess of small collection you have now and depending on how long you want to stick with LDs you may be better off getting another player.

CX isn’t digital, it’s noise reduction on the analog. It’s almost always built into the player.

If it didn’t do Digital from the factory then you can’t add it unless it has a raw EFM jack or maybe (maybe) if you mod it.

Even on the best players, AC-3 is massively overrated. I wouldn’t bother right now.

I’d concentrate on just getting a better player. If it’s RF out only you are at the absolute bottom of quality. Demodulated RF isn’t that great no matter what the system used to do it.

This player is a clone of the Pioneer, LD-1100 which is a top loader that is obviously an analog audio only player (it might have built in CX Noise Reduction for the analog sound since the 1100 appears to have it but can't verify on this one). So obviously, there is no PCM digital sound nor AC3 capability since they weren't implemented in players until 1984 and 1995 (this is probably a late 1970's player).

You're better off getting that CLD-D505 repaired than trying to do anything more with this museum piece (it is still neat to see a working player w/ a helium neon laser). BTW, any update on the 505?

Yeah, it’s really cool that it works, honestly. I’ve ever seen a working top loader in person.

CX only indeed, I have it as a 1982 player => Sylvania VP-7200
The Pioneer LD-1100 started in 1981.

Now we can use the hardware database for quick confirmations... and correct/add missing information! :-)

I ordered the pickup assembly for the D505 last week from Instrumental parts.com. I'm hoping it doesn't take too long to get here because I'd love to get that D505 fixed.

I will say the Sylvania does still work exactly as it is supposed to, even if it is a very early 80s model and can't play the digital tracks. I'm lucky that for now most of my discs have a mono analog channel so there's only maybe 4-5 that I can only play the audio commentaries lol. But I was going through the Cliffhanger Pioneer CAV SE and damn if it isn't cool to see it in action.

But yes I hope to have a much more recent and capable player working sooner rather than later.

Just make sure your repair guys saves the old pick-up (and have him solder the GND points on the old one to prevent ESD damage while you have it in storage). You definitely want to keep the part for the future as spares are hard to come by.

Hope the repair works out. Sounds like it’s going to be expensive.

Just got word that the part should be shipping in the next two weeks so I’m hopeful by the end of the month to have the D505 working.
