I tried searching the forum and the google, but couldn't find what I was looking for....

I am watching The Last Starfighter and the picture is constantly wobbling side to side. Not a lot, just slightly, as if the camera man had an unsteady hand...... I have seen this on a couple other discs, but only for a second or two....What is it from? Is this rot related? Besides the wobble, everything else looks great.

which version, nothing to do with rot.
rot are speckles and some audio issues, not bouncing picture.

If the picture wobbles slightly from side to side it is most likely "gate weave" from the telecine transfer. The sprockets of the 35mm film may have been damaged causing an unsteady picture while transferring it.

It's P&S version.
I can get passed it, just wanted to know if there is something up.
Thanks

I already mentioned that it is most likely "gate weave" from the telecine transfer. The telecine sprocket pins probably weren't holding the film's sprocket holes correctly, causing the video to have a slight wobble.

You can read about it from this book: http://books.google.com/books?id=oEamKQBtn_0C&pg=PA340&lpg=PA340&dq=gate+weave+wobble&source=bl&ots=ZIkK-4y7z6&sig=GL_F-jmYotynEsh3ShHdq1zD49E&hl=en&sa=X&ei=gfaHT5mGKKTniALmsLHmCg&sqi=2&ved=0CD4Q6AEwBA#v=onepage&q=gate%20weave%20wobble&f=false
