I guess that's what I would call it.It was showing time elapsed as a played a disc. I opened it up to change the belt and the grip ring and got it back together, now it shows the frame count an I want to see the playing time instead but can't figure out how to get it to switch back to time? thanks.

There is nothing wrong with your player.

If you play a CLV disc, you get a time indicator.

If you play a CAV disc, you get a frame counter with the option on some players to show an elapsed time by pressing the display button. I think most players around 1990 and later have that feature.

Just amending to say that not all CAV discs themselves allow for elapsed time to display; usually older ones lack the information needed

I think it's a TOC thing, but don't quote me on that

Why does nobody read the manual to these players before destroying them with tweeks that are not needed.

I don’t get the impression that the poster performed the maintenance job based solely on the display. Player might have been acting up and he/she just happened to notice something not seen before the repair and calling it into question. Customers I deal with make a lot of unfound assumptions after I complete a job on something and I have to gently tell them they are imagining it .

No, I didn't think the OP did maintenance based on frame count not showing time, I was just venting a little in a generalized way

I agree that there are a great number of questions here from people over the years that could have been answered by the player’s manual. Not technical questions or player specific questions but stuff related to the format itself that is true for every player.
