Never had this happen before... interested in people's thoughts.

Was watching The Killing Fields today, an old Analog version (LDDB#=02177) and the output cut out about 15 minutes into disc three on my Toshiba XR-W75 (CLD-D501 clone)... the player was still on but there was no signal at all. It then stopped itself and returned to the blue screen you get when no disc is playing. Tried again and the same thing happened at the same point of the disk.

So, I tried the same disc in my CLD-980... this machine seems to play anything... It did get further into the disk but then the same thing happened.

I assumed that the disk is defective so I checked it and there are no marks or blemishes... it does not seemed to be warped either.

Anyone else experience this?

The player is stopping itself. What else is in the chain is totally irrelevant unless it’s causing an electrical fault of extreme proportions.

It’s a defective disc. Chuck it.

Its not always that obvious, we need to know more specifics and got them.

Could be player, cables, receiver or even disc.
So now we know there are 4 elements, make it easy, did the disc play fine before?? then we need to figure out.
If its a new disc try another one, if not change cables, remove receiver from chain etc.

But its more than likely the player or disc.

The disc can look perfect but suffer serious laserrot and other defects. If it is the only disc that fails then most likely the disc is bad.

So, have played other movies on both players since my last post... same setup... no issues. Seems to be specific to the disc.

Interesting to know that discs can be bad even when they look to be in great condition.

Thanks everyone for your responses and insights.

Yep, even discs with rot will physically look perfect.
Enjoy LDs.

He specifically said the player STOPPED. And the same thing happened in another player.

It’s the disc. No question.

You must be thinking of someone else. I have no tolerance.
