I'm living in Sweden and are looking for a closed caption decoder for my laserdisc player.

CC is not built in our TV sets here in Europe.

I have been searching the internet and found out that I need one with composite input and output. But what I cant seem to find is information on positioning the captions on the screen.
I watch a lot of movies on LD that are in widescreen and I have my TV set on zoom so that the aspect ratio is correct in 16:9. and if the captioning is locked in the bottom of a 4:3 image I will not see the text.

So what I want is:
A CCD with the option to move the captions on screen.
Not make the image worse.
The ability to change font and size. and remove the black behind the letters, or maybe make it transparent.

Is there such a device?

The TV Guardian 101 has white text on translucent background. (I've had two units. One unit started each line with a capital letter and the rest was lowercase and the other unit was in all-caps, but both were white text on a (very) translucent background. Also, don't worry about the parental control type stuff, you can disable all that and treat it like a regular CC decoder.)

You can't with the TV Guardian 101.

The DVD recorder, Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK, had some pretty nifty CC capabilities. You can change the color of the captions and the background. I don't recall if you can change the position though.

I'll plug mine in when I get home and check for you.

Nevermind, I checked the manual. Doesn't seem like you can change the position of the captions on the DMR-EZ48VK . . .

BTW - this E-Teck HQ-2000 has also slot for CC/Subtitle Cartridges.
They were used at least in Taiwan and China.

Look here (and the mystery is solved...):

This is really cool. Up until now I thought American anime fans were the only ones subtitling stuff at home.

I don't suppose there is any chance the overlay circuitry is any good whatsoever...it would be really cool if it was. It can't be that hard to make your own carts.
