Do we have any trustworthy forum members in Washington who could act as a proxy? It seems the only claim we've had of someone getting their player back in the last two years, was from someone who physically met up with him. I was out there in September and am kind of kicking myself for not renting a car and driving out to the repair shack in the woods. The guy does respond to emails...until you ask about more concrete time estimates, then silence. Or perhaps the computer "crashed" for the 3rd or 4th or 5th time or whatever it's up to now

I am actually planning to make a trip to Washington this summer, I will buy all of your players at a whole sale price from Duncan. Just kidding:) Did this guy fix anything else beside LD players?

he was trying to an optical out mod on my Lexicon LDD-1. I also sent a CD player but it was expensive to find the lens for it so I gave up on it. I think he does do other electronic work besides LDs but I would not be 100% on it since I don't know.

If you have the service manual or a very detailed picture of the board, I can design you an optical out add on.

I don't have anything. He put an optical on there but it never came out that way I mean sound came out the normal output. he was working on trying to fix so the sound only came out the optical out last I heard.

I would just like the LDD-1 back and also my money or the LDS2 as well.

I sent him a e-mail few weeks ago, but no reply. Even if I just get my player back I would be happy as mine didn't need any parts.

Here is a message that I was forwarded by Grasshopper from a very lucky person.

"Greetings, I hope you might assist a new member with some brief advice?

I'm contacting you because I've been following threads on lddb.com's Forums for a few weeks now, to find a place to get my recently-bought player serviced. It has some severe video interference issues, but is in fine shape overall.

In brief, I found LDservice.com earlier this week and got into contact with Duncan, who has been very responsive, with replies on the order of an hour or less to my inquiries. He's more than happy to have me drop off my player for service in WA, which is doable as I live within a few hour's drive / ferry trip in xx.

BUT: I've only JUST yesterday discovered the threads on LDDB.com regarding Duncan's lack of follow-through on repairs, and that's left me in a pickle as to whether to trust him. I'm leaning to NOT.

Do you offer any kind of repair service? My player works, but has screen issues that Duncan said 'might be the capacitors' which is really vague. I'm no technician, so I'm loathe to ruin a rare xxxxxx in a repair attempt. The only other place remotely close to me I can find for service is in Portland, but they haven't responded to my email yet.

I would greatly appreciate your advice as to what to do. Duncan appears to still be active on the LDDB Forums, so asking for advice there seems likely to tip him off - he's obviously quick to respond to emails sent to his website too.

I'm rather disheartened, as in the end, all I want to do is enjoy my laserdisc collection with a decent picture.

Thank-you,

xxxxxxxxxx."

I am a reseller who owns a small retail store in Olympia, WA. About a week ago, I was contacted by a woman claiming to be the estranged wife of Duncan Hunter. She informed me that her home was filled with LD players and that she wanted them gone so that she could begin the process of renovating. The woman claimed that her husband owned an LD service/repair shop and that he had collected the players over the course of his career. She said that there were at least 80-100 players and nearly 1000 discs in the home and that her husband had no interest in dealing with the mess. Apparently, he does not live with her or even in the county any longer.

When I arrived at the home I was astounded by the sheer amount of electronics, parts, and discs present. There were well over 200 players stacked in the garage and inside the home, some in boxes and some not. I have never seen so many LD players in one place! I like to think that I am a pretty good judge of character, and the woman's story seemed legit, so I made a deal with her and began the process of removing all of the electronics from the home and garage. It took quite some time and many trips, but eventually, I got everything transferred to my storage facility.

Once I finished removing the players and discs from the home, I began the process of taking inventory. I quickly realized that something was amiss because every box that I opened had repair orders or printed email communications detailing requests for repair. It didn't seem as though the repairs had been made to these units, nor was there any sort of obvious resolution based on the lack of response from Hunter. This piqued my interest, so I decided to do a bit of research on Bayview Electronic Repair and Duncan Hunter himself. Obviously, I found this thread and began to realize the extent of the situation. I never imagined that I was going to get mixed up in something this seemingly devious and complex, but here I am.

I am not interested in selling ill-begotten items. My hope in posting this reply is that someone will see it and get in touch with me. I know that many users on this forum have been following the saga of Hunter, and some have more information than others. If you are one of the users who knows many of the owners of these machines, please reach out to me at the email address provided below. I have been contacting the people listed on the packages, but very few of them answer or get back to me. It has been such a long time since they originally sent these machines to Hunter (in some cases 10+ years), and it seems that many have moved on and are not interested in getting their property back. However, there are quite a few high-value units here, and I feel like the owners would like to know that I have them.

If you or someone you know lost a unit to this fiasco, please be prepared to provide some sort of evidence that you are the owner of the unit you would like to claim. Together with the documentation I have, we should be able to track down your unit pretty easily. I am a full-time reseller, business owner, and husband, so please be patient. I hope to be diligent in my search for the owners of these players, but I don't have a huge amount of time to commit. Ultimately, I just want to do what is right.

Wow, this is pretty big news. I guess the mystery is solved... kind of.

I'm wondering if this previous post should be a sticky as it could potentially have significant influence on a lot of users who had given up on their units?

It's possible that the contact info is no longer up to date - which is perfectly possible considering it's been nearly a decade - which would make finding the real owners nearly impossible.

I do hope at least the folks who're still active on this board will be able to get their players back! Also have you tried posting this on the Laserdisc subreddit?

yeah, I do hope there is a way for others to get them, but they could have written it off already and people would have to go after Duncan
or his ex-wife as she sold it, but it has been 8-10 years now for most and I think limitations are up now?? Don't know enough of law with this type of thing.

Thanks for the update. I probably couldn't verify ownership, and I'm not exactly heartbroken so many years later, but I wouldn't mind my CLD-3070 back, and maybe someone who can actually calibrate it worth a damn without ghosting me since I don't have the discs to do it myself.
