Post subject: How many drive belts for Pioneer DVL-909 and R7G? Posted: 07 May 2015, 14:48 |

I got a call from my friendly tv-repairman, he's going to order some replacement parts for my Pioneer DVL-909 just for future spares. My player is still going strong like Rocky Balboa.
What I need to know is how many drive belts there are for disc draw on DVL-909? Are there separate belts for dvd and LD or is it only a single belt drive?
Any other parts I should tell my repairman to order for me? What else goes bad on DVL-909? Do disc clamp go bad or wear out? Do plastic wheel cogs go bad? Please let me know what extra spareparts I should get?
What is the nearest European/US Pioneer player to R7G? I want to order belt for this one aswell. Maybe all Pioneer CLD-XXX players shares the same drive belt?
Thanks for your help.

All CLD's from the 406 (probably 504) and later use the same drive belts, AFAIK. SCQ4.0 on paper, in practice sometimes a little smaller. (The correct Pioneer part # is in the forum archives) The R7G and the 909(E) both have the improved M[otor]-holder, so that shouldn't be a problem. I haven't heard of rubber grip problems too often aside from the 503/70x/99, but they'll probably go bad eventually (i.e. years out!) on all players. Also if you can get a spindle motor or two, all the late CLD's and DVL's use the same core motor, with different bits on top. grasshopper (and krbahr) probably know what other parts to get that go bad on these. If they contradict anything I said, they're probably right

There really should be a sticky for common parts. (admin?) kris @ Where do I buy spareparts for Pioneer laserdisc players? might be useful, Pioneer Belgium isn't bad at least. I think the Spindle Motors are $45-65 on Pioneer's US site. Dunno what they'd cost over there. I posted a bit ago with part #'s for the core motors. belt is VEB1184.

laserpaal wrote: I'm afraid Pioneer USA will not ship international. What if you contact Pioneer Sweden and get them to ship the desired parts from Pioneer USA? You might be able to create a virtual US postal address and then use a third party service to ship it home to Sweden. I haven't done it, so I can't verify if it is legal or if it works. Just a thought.... laserdisc players was not a hit in Sweden, I never saw these in official electronic shops, only available as grey market imports sold in shady laserdisc shops. do you think Pioneer located in some european countries would ship within europe? where in europe can I contact nearest Pioneer shop for parts?

krbahr wrote: There are two belts in the DVL units. The VEB1184 load belt and a second one that turns the pickup over in the back. No grip ring issues with the DVL type spindle motor but I'd get a spare as the bearings can wear out eventually. The R7G and 909 use the same pickup if you want to go there. But the CLD-D604/504/605/505/406/606 have the needed parts for the R7G but they are worn and the belts are just $5 plus shipping. do you have the partsnumer for second belt turning over pickup in the back?

krbahr wrote: Will have to look up the turn mechanism belt when I get home, but I'll ship these to anyone outside the US. For the loading belt buy the next smaller than the SCQ4.0 which is normally a SCQ3.6 (SCQ3.8 would be ideal if it was available), or use the actual Pioneer belt which is between the 4.0 and 3.6. Never had the turn mechanism belt go bad yet. my tv-guy will order genuine pioneer belts, if you know it's correct partsnumber for turn mechanism belt that would be great. turn mechanism belt is made of rubber. rubber dries out and goes bad from age and wear n tear use. my player is a 1998 model, belts were never replaced, you think it's time to service my player performance? i know about don't fix if it ain't broken.

krbahr wrote: The service manual says the turn mechanism belt is the same as the loading belt so just have them order two.
Personally I don't know any service shops that really know how to align laserdisc pickups correctly. I also do recommend if it is not broke don't fix it. Is it an easy access to swap turn mechanism belt? I will order 2 belts as spares. thanks a lot for your help

krbahr wrote: The turn mechanism is more work, you have to remove the white plastic housing holding the mechanism and replace the belt and then guide the gears back into place as you re-install it. seems complicated work, i won't be touching this until it needs to be done. disc drawer is much easier to access.
