Hello, my prototype HD-MAC laserdisc player is broken... I'd like to repair it, but no one in Italy has an idea how to do it... even a person in the team which projected it could be able to do it!

I'd like to find a repair center here in Italy, or at least in Europe, as this is the only HD-MAC laserdisc player remaining in the world (AFAIK) and I don't want to ship it; I'd prefer to bring it in person to someone who could repair it.

Kurtis, do you know someone who could do the job?

Thanks to everyone,
Andrea

Did you ever get a HD-MAC disc for that beast, or a HD-MAC decoder? I know I'd love to see some photos — I've only ever seen one technical paper on the subject. If that's a Philips machine, maybe somebody in Eindhoven knows enough about it to do the work.

Would help to know the basics of the problem of this philips player and post some pictures. Most of the philips players i repaired the problem was due to mechanics, would like to know if the player was build on the basics of an existing model, this as philips has limited chipsets designed for laserdisc.

Know philips invested much in hd-mac starting in 1988, with some available products in 1991/92 (consumer market only used d- and d2-mac, never hd-mac) so i assume your player is from around this period.

Yes, it's a Philips.

It turn on, but the display does not work and the drawer does not open.

I'll post some pictures ASAP.

Meanwhile, if someone has a contact inside Philips...

Hello Andrea,

Did you manage to repair your player and find the discs after all ? I just wanted to know,
since I am a big fan of Laserdisc, and have interest in HD-MAC and
D2-MAC. How is the quality of the discs ? And how do you connect the player ?

I am currently in search of a compatible HDVS CRT like Sony KW-3215HD, 3220HD or 3215HD.

Regards,
Christian.

Hello. What is the current status of the product? Also, what is the brand/model and can you share a photo?

The HD-MAC test disks on EBay were even featured on Tom’s Hardware!

Prototype LaserDisc HD media sells for $1,000 — despite disc rot and unknown contents
It isn't only retro computer prices that are getting out of hand.
Quote:
A rare LaserDisc prototype has been sold on eBay for an eye-watering sum. The Philips-made product, described as an “HD Mac 12 Glass Plate N.66733 - Laserdisc Prototype - Extra Rare” sold for nearly $1,000. What is most extraordinary is that this is simply a piece of 12-inch optical media, not hardware like a player, a decoder, or any rare movie content for the platform.

It's a shame @laserdisc.ws doesn't want to provide any pictures or information. Such a rare piece should be shared with the community.

I was also following the various auctions on HD MAC and other rare discs but I won't spent a few hundred $ just to have such an item without a player.

Everyone should agree on this. There is a video and a decent photo of the HD-MAC cassette and player, but no videos/photos of LaserDisc players could be found:
