It's like a cleaner for electronics and I believe it's mostly used for cleaning up one's RCA jacks if you feel you need it.

I personally don't think it's necessary unless you are having constant issues with the said jacks and even then you might have bigger issues than just oxidation.

What did you have in mind for wanting to use this chemical?

Well I disagree, it is majorly important for cleaning stuff like contacts or scratchy pots.
You can get a can of spray for under 10 bucks and its worth having it around for RCA contacts, volume pots that scratch when turned
and could even clear up some other electrical devices that have been sitting in someones basement for years and then you picked up cheap.

Even those small button micro switches will clean up. I have a digital scale and that button to reset wasn't working, so I sprayed some Dexoit and it
works again.

Just good to have for very little money.

I use this for video game contacts and it's GREAT for that. Never needed to use it for anything else.

As others have said it's mostly for video game equipment, but it's worth a look for any older gear you pick up that could have been owned in coastal or humid environments where various innards even the transport might have contracted rust.

:eh: This really isn't for rust, and if you know how contacts etc are made they don't rust they have oxidation rather than rust.

Anyway I use it on amps and guitars too, made for that stuff first then it would have also been used on VGs too.

Maybe this isn't for rust, idk. But rust is oxidation of iron.

IMO the stuff is magic, but don’t go shooting it everywhere.

This is really too much for me to explain on how and what devices are made of.
Pots, chip board pins, all internal electronic parts are not made of steel or iron and the deoxit will clean them.

Even silver does oxidize but its not rust per se its a chemical reaction of sulfur in the air that forms black on the silver.
Does this eat away, sort of if left long enough but it won't allow the two surfaces of the metal to make contact with one another.

Copper has the same issue, even aluminium. Gold is the only one that doesn't oxidize this is why higher end cables have that.
