Hi all,

I've encountered a weird issue, and I can't seem to debug my way out of it. Just got 2010 on LD. Went to play it. No sound. Image is fine. My other discs all play properly.

FWIW, I have a Sony MDP-800. I'm using the regular video output (my receiver and tv don't have s-video) and the optical audio output. I really, really don't wanna get into a mess of switching away from optical audio out to resolve audio on one disc, so I'm hoping there is an issue with the settings somewhere, and that I'm just too new to the format to know about it.

Help!

It's not weird if you are playing an "analog audio only" LaserDisc that can't be outputted from a digital out. Is this the version of 2010 that you are trying to play?

2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984) [ML100591]

In any case, you do need to set-up both the optical and analog audio outputs of any LaserDisc player to ensure you can access the different audio tracks available.

I don't know the disc your taliking about, but the problem there is is probably due to that disc only having analogue sound. So of course there won't be any sound on the optical out.
Just use the remote "audio" button, if on the tv, the display only says "analogue", then the disc IS analogue only and you'll have to use the rca out. If you continue pressing the button and it says"digital", then I guess there might be a problem with either the disc or the player if the digital soundtrack isn't sent via the optical out.

Yes, and even with the analogue outputs connected up, a lot of AV amps select the digital input preferentially if the optical one is even plugged in, so one needs to force the amp to use the analogue input.

On my Pioneer amp, this is accomplished with the "signal select" button.
I have three options for audio signals coming into the "LD" input. Analogue, Digital and AC3-rf.
