My Panasonic LX-H670 Player seems to work great but this burn mark or tear has me worried. Does anyone know what this is and should I be worried that my player might die in the future? Right now it plays laserdiscs great! With the exception that I do run into a fair share of laserdiscs with issues such as laserdisc rot or warped discs that screw up the picture and audio. I'd assume that's normal tho because of manufacturing issues with laserdiscs and some people may have taken poorly care of the discs. I would like to think most people take care of laserdiscs and that the issues with laserdisc rot is mostly manufacturing issues. Now laserdisc warp I'd assume is probably from discs not being placed vertically. Feel free to correct me on the differences between laserdisc rot and warped discs. I know the discs do get read incorrectly if they aren't flat enough. Any who this topic was more about what this burn mark or tear is inside the laserdisc. And what part of the laserdisc player is that? Is it the power supply? I showed my Father this picture and I think he said that's the power supply which I guess makes sense since I believe that's where the plug area is located on the back of the player. My apologies for the low res picture. I'm not on my desktop right now. If you need a better quality picture let me know.

Its a transformer, not the toy :P but the electronic part.

They wrap it in a plastic type electrical tape, these rarely go bad but in answer to your question, yes your player will die in the future.

All things must pass...........

Boy that's a great album and I need to listen to that one again.

I really can't tell from the photo, but does that seem new? Or maybe someone accidentally touched their soldering iron to it decades ago.

Don't go touching anything in your power supply, but if your transformer is getting hot or there is a "bad electronics" smell you might have a problem.

In my humble opinion, if the unit does not have any burning smell coming from it and the player is working fine, I would not worry about it. Worst case scenario is that it just shorts itself out one day and you worry about it then.

Here is better pictures of it. Also, for the heck of it I will show some ribbons that look strange in my laserdisc player. For some reason one of the ribbons has a bend to it and I don't know why. Like it looks like someone bent it. I wonder if someone repaired this laserdisc player in the past. If it had any issues.

You do realize that this machine is about 25 years old and probably has been passed along to possibly one or more owners in that time frame. Thus, imperfections of any kind are to be expected.

In addition, I’m sure that these bends in the cable are most likely from someone tampering with the machine at some point and things like that can happen as people remove boards to work on them and they got a little sloppy trying to put it back into a connector. And if this bend was really an issue, you’d probably have a player that is not working (which I believe you told us is not the case).

Is there a reason you are so overly concerned?

I am not outside much unless I go for a jog. What does this have to do with a flu virus? Why are you even bringing covid up? Makes absolutely no sense and has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

You know you are the reason I haven't posted on here for months. All you ever do is harass me because you target me probably because of my name. I respectfully will tell you to please don't reply to anymore of my topics. You are not a good person. I'm not going to respond to anymore of your garbage.
