I've had this for awhile. looking at it again after being in storage for all the years.
Is this list international or strictly domestic. I thought LD-S1 which I have, the model number is something else in Japan. And not all of these are Pioneer players right? one last thing I've looked at the picture but can't tell does this go on the top for the spindle to get a better grip on it?

are the players domestic or international or both? I mean I didn't think the model LDS-1 was used in Japan. Also N$A explanation was confusing.

In reality, both, that specific adaptor is clearly for the Japanese market but may have been exported.

In any case these are almost totally players made before a certain month in 1988 and therefore not that useful. I have had a player or two that won’t play 5” LDs but never one that didn’t do 8” or one that had issues clamping 8” LD singles (single sided and CD thickness.)

The UK LD archive shows a 1986 release for the LD-S1 in Japan with a price of ¥250,000. The picture they show has Elite style wood and black lacquer but with Japanese names on the rear ports and no “Elite” that I can see.

LD-S1 won't clamp on 8 inch single discs, found out the hard way.

But you're pretty much guaranteed that a player which plays CDs will take the single 8" discs no problem.

Not sure if I have to post a picture.
8 inch single discs are thin like a CD but 8 inches.
regular 8 inch discs are thick like a regular LD just 8 inches.

My CLD-3030 (U.S. version of CLD-99S) can play the LD Single disc just fine. I know that the CLD-99S did not come with a built in adapter to play the 3" CD Single so maybe that could be related to why it needs this LD Single adapter.

But this isn't for the 3-5 inch discs, its for the thinner 8 inch single discs that can't clamp in the player.
I remember seeing those adapters years ago for the 3 inch discs, was a ring that went outside the disc It think??

I am aware of that.

I'm just mentioning the CD3 adapter since the CLD-99S should be able to play the LD Single just like the CLD-3030 since they are literally identical players. However, the minor difference was that CD3 adapter so that might indicate there is a minor design difference affecting clamping for the LD Single.

To the best of my knowledge, this adapter wasn't imported. the single-thickness discs did not come out here in the US until MUCH later. LD Singles really didn't get issued here in the US. The Image Entertainment catalog discs, a couple of Warner Reprise demos are pretty much all that was done. Perhaps some Karaoke discs.

I have also used these adapters to play single-thickness DiscoVision test pressings in older players.

I suppose I could try it with my LD S-1 but I feel like I would break it. luckily I have the LDV30000 and my CLD-79. One of these days I am going to get all my laserdiscs out of storage and compare my 2 elite players.

I would just avoid using it if you’re concerned. It’s barely useful in any circumstance.

For reference, the usage and compatibility list of the intended Japanese players are here:
