Although I have already made a previous post here a few days ago, I noticed that others were doing this, so I thought I would take a moment to introduce myself as well. My name is David (aka laserking). I'm sure some of you have probably noticed my username scattered all over this great website Julien has created for our enjoyment. I joined this site in early 2005, and I have been slowly driving Julien crazy since that time. I began collecting LaserDiscs in 1987, and my fascination with them will be forever linked to one of my other hobbies, coin-operated arcade games, which I also collect. To be more specific, the game Dragon's Lair was what directly led me to the LaserDisc format. For more specific information on this, and on me, please feel free to check out my "About Me" page. My collection listing is also made public for your enjoyment. Please don't hesitate to look at it as well. You will quickly see that my collection is quite large, and that my taste in movies is, shall we say, "somewhat unusual". Yes, my friends, you can call me what you like, Baron of Bizarre, Sultan of Strange, or even The Wonderful Wizard of Weird. Just please don't call me ordinary! To quote one of my favorite non-actors, Criswell, "You are all interested in the unknown, the mysterious, the unexplainable- that is why you are here!" I, your humble narrator, am here to guide you through these fantastic unexplored realms, and help you try to make some sense of it all.
As my vast collection began to grow, I found that many of the titles I acquired were either almost completely lacking in vital information here, or were missing from this site altogether. I noticed this particularly in the areas of what I call the "lesser Asian markets". These would be those Asian markets other than the "Big Boy", Japan. They include Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and the recently added China (Thank you, Julien, for adding this previously unrepresented country to the roster). I realized long ago that there was no realistic chance that any of these markets would ever overtake Japan in sheer number of titles released. However, if I have accomplished nothing else in my time here, at least I can take some pride in the fact that I have been able to firmly establish Hong Kong as the number three world LaserDisc market. There is very little available in the way of printed reference materials on releases from these markets. Almost all of the information I have submitted here on them was taken directly from the discs themselves. When copies of these titles appear, I do my best to secure them, and to compile information on them for inclusion here. By all accounts, they are rapidly disappearing from the planet. I do my best to preserve these "endangered species" when I find them, and add them to the great "global collection".
At any rate, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to this great forum which Julien has prepared for us. I hope that from time to time I might have something to offer here for everyone's benefit. Welcome to the Pleasure Dome!
Peace & Love, David
