Hi everyone,
I've been buying and selling LD's for a few years. My primary player is a CLD-D702, I do have a few others but this one is the best I have right now. I just bought a decent sized collection, mostly older classics with a little sci-fi and horror thrown in. My business is selling books, DVD/VHS and CD's although I do have a few LD's listed but I'm starting to ramp that up. Down here in FL where I live LD's weren't all that common but I just remember back in the day laserdiscs were the best format for home enjoyment of movies and, of course, I couldn't afford them back then which of course is why I get such a kick out of the format now. My tv is a new model LG 3D 55" and IMO, a LD looks great on it. Obviously not as good as a blu-ray but I will say I've had LD's which have a better picture than some of the DVD's I've played. I watched Godfather III the other night from the DVD boxed set and the picture was not much better than a VHS, very grainy in some parts whereas The Getaway on LD had an outstanding picture. I very much enjoy the format and it's a lot of fun to collect. Right now I have about 400 LD's which most are either available or will soon be available for sale. Some are fairly scarce. I'm not like a lot of people who sell LD and put in every title "RARE" because that is usually not the case. I plan on getting started on LDDB soon, when I get approved to sell. Anyway, enough of my blah blah blah, I just wanted to drop a line to fellow enthusiasts.

Good Morning nikita70, from the UK 06:46am to be precise :)

I have just enjoyed reading your post and thank you for sharing your experience with this site.

I have been collecting Laserdisc's & Players since April 1998.

Around 2000 I used to look at the exotic LD players such as the Elite CLD-97 / 99, and then the Japanese HLD-X0 / X9.
I thought that I would never own them, I remember thinking at the time that I had got into Laserdisc's too late, and that's why I didn't think i'd ever get my hands on them ''not to mention the expense involved''

Moving forward to the present and ''sometimes hard to believe'' I now own all but one of the players : HLD X0 (currently reserved in Japan.)

Harold. . . . .I know what you mean about the movies being to expensive at the time when they were being produced, as I used to travel many, many, many, many miles (2 1/2hours journey each way in the car.) to purchase the latest LD releases ect.

I paid for an HLD X9 over a period of around a year, then travelled a round trip of 800 miles to pick it up.

I have travelled to Rotterdam to purchase around 40 to 50 Laserdisc's.

I travelled an hour each way to purchase Laserdisc's and hardware from another seller and other locations besides.

Never before have I done so much to purchase, or collect a format and laserdisc is my thing.

I have an average job, watch every penny & pound, and enjoy waiting for things and find inspiration from people like you, who work hard and strive for things.

I hope your business is successful and that you do well, keep collecting and thank you again.

Regards to you and glad to have you here :)

Hi Harold, welcome to the forum, I hope you have a great time here. I agree with you about the Godfather DVDs, I was really disappointed with the picture quality when I watched them recently.

And one of the best things I love about laserdiscs is I can forward through all of the BS copyright warnings. It's 2012, "Really, it's illegal to copy movies?" Is there anyone on the planet who doesn't know this? You pay all the $$$ for a dvd or blu-ray and then they make you waste your time and watch that BS. I don't think I can accurately convey how much that ticks me off.

Same for me.
Play + go to next chapter = enjoy movie.

That never really bothered me too much with DVD but it's getting ridiculous with Blu Ray because on top of all the copyright notices you also have to sit through all the loading screens!

The Laserdisc format was simple, you put the disc in and played the movie and when it finished the player stopped and that was that. . . . . .cannot be beat Period!

DVD was good but Blu-ray. . . . the added notices about the illegal copying, the views of this material your about to watch, federal law, the adverts about Galaxy chocolate and so on.

IT'S VERY VERY SIMPLE! I PURCHASED A LEGAL MOVIE AND JUST WANT TO WATCH IT  :x

I don't mind the up and coming movie trailers that are shown automatically before the feature starts so much, but even these can be a pain. . . . . especially from the likes of Disney.

Oh well that's my rant finished :)

Regards. . . .Happy viewing all
