Hi all, thought it was time I gave my self introduction (for the third or fourth time for some..sorry). The name is Austin and I moved to Japan all most five years ago. I lived in Australia up until then. Laserdisc was never officially on sale in OZ (or if it was, not mass marketed). I actually remember going into an AV store, seeing a laserdisc and having a good laugh. It was at the time DVD had just come out and laserdiscs looked ridiculously huge. I remember turning my nose up when hearing things like the movie comes on two discs and if you walk too heavily near a LD player as it played a movie, it would cause the playback of the disc to stuff up and you would have to start the movie all over again from the start (don't know where I heard that one). Anyway, after moving to Japan, one day I walked into a junk store and saw a copy of the Terminator 2 special edition box set sitting there. I couldn't believe how cool the box looked, especially the way you pull out the inner box and see Arnie's face on one side and the terminator skeleton in flames on the other. I looked at the price of this awesome looking set and was shocked to see 210yen (about $1.90 at the time). Even though I didn't have a player (or intend to get one), I thought the box itself would be worth more than that, also it would be a cool talking point when people came round. So I bought it. In the next few weeks I found a few more cheap box sets (Aladdin comes to mind) and soon I was actively looking them out. I came across a cheap Sony LD player soon after that, so I decided, what the hell, I'd buy it and see what these Laserdisc thingys actually looked like. Skip ahead 3 and a half years and I'm coming up on 1200 discs (a number of doubles in there though). Nice to meet you all

Well how the hell could I have missed this thread??!!! Greetings (officially) Austin, my friend. For those that have not seen it and are just toying with the concept of 'what does 1200 Laserdiscs actually look like?' I can tell you...t looks like an honest to goodness, shit-your-pants-jealousy-inducing, bona-fide-green-eyed-monster-rearing wall of AV happiness. The word 'impressive' starts getting an inferiority complex whilst standing next to it and just does not even begin to cover it. I do hope you put some more pix up Bully, share, share, share!!!

(just kidding!)No, sadly for me I lost my job 2 years ago after 13 years thanks to cost cutting! I am doing my best to make sure it's only temporary but...it is a bit of a struggle, and why I do not get dozens of LDs at a time...I just can't do it, no matter how much i would love to. But there is an upside, and that upside is that whilst it does take me a bit longer to save up, I really appreciate the ones I do get all the more particularly my Japanese ones, so...I don't really lose out either way Hi HippieDalek, it is good seeing familiar names on here, how are you doing?

Hi dgtwoodward, good to see you here too, I'm doing good thanks, how about you?
I was in the same position as you a while back, lost my job due to the company cutting back, sign of the times unfortunately. I wish you the best of luck, I'm sure there's a job out there for you : )
