Hi everyone,
I've been using LDDb to keep track of my collection, and I figured it was time to introduce myself to the community!
I am a French-speaking collector living in Europe.
To be completely honest, I started my LaserDisc journey just about a month ago. I reached a boiling point with the ongoing modern censorship and the "politically correct" rewriting of movie history. Erasing our history puts us at risk of repeating it, and I strongly believe in preserving the absolute authenticity of a piece of art, even if its outdated context or mentalities might shock some modern audiences today.For me, LaserDiscs hold a critical importance because they are the ultimate physical gatekeepers of unedited cinema. Many of these original cuts will never see a modern re-release due to copyright issues, music rights, or other corporate legal nonsense.
My overall movie collection already includes more than 1,500 movies across various formats (DVD, Blu-ray, etc.), and I have recently acquired around 300 LaserDiscs.
I am well aware that my current LD batch (mostly local PAL releases rescued from flea markets) might not yet contain the rarest unedited gems, but we all have to start somewhere!
By the way, if any of you have compiled or know of lists tracking unreleased, uncensored, or heavily modified movies that are best preserved on LaserDisc, please share them with me! I am highly interested in building my future wantlist around this historical approach.
My current setup includes:
* LD Players: Pioneer CLD-D925 & Pioneer CLD-2950
* Displays: Philips 4K TV & JVC D-ILA NZ7 Projector
* Video Processing: To be frank, without serious upscaling, LDs look unwatchable on modern 4K panels and projectors. I am currently using a few other hardware components, but I am eagerly waiting to receive my RetroTINK-4K Pro very soon to finally get the best out of these discs.
I'm happy to join a community that values physical media and history preservation. Looking forward to chatting with you all!
Cheers!
Vincent
