Hey all,

I've been collecting laserdiscs since about 1999. We had a Tenchi Muyo marathon with rented player and media and I liked the quality so much I got into the format. I'm up to about 500 titles, and only since the arrival of low-priced Blu-Ray have I stopped shopping further.

I'm attempting to find The Wizard of Speed and Time by Mike Jittlov, and I'm always interested in knowing what disc jackets make good wall art in an LP frame (ie no damage).

As far as issues I'm having, I'm now using an Epson 8350 projector and the picture, currently running on S-Video, doesn't look as good as I'd like it to. I've heard that the Composite signal might actually be a better choice, but I haven't had time to look into it. To keep the right impedance I figure I'll have to get a normal RG-6 cable with F-connectors and either replace those with RCA connectors or use F-to-RCA adapters.

See you around...

Just run the regular cables you will be happy. The wizard would be a cool movie. I am looking for a good copy myself. Totally cool movie. Especially the yard sale.

I have a copy of The Wizard Of Speed And Time on Super VHS that I got back in the 90's - it was recorded directly from the LaserDisc using an LD-S2 and was made for me by a guy I was trading quadraphonic records and decoders with. I had never even heard of the film so he made me the tape, and what a blast of a movie it was. And also totally brilliant with its use of stop motion and other FX. I've only ran across a copy of the LaserDisc for sale once, and that was from Big Emma's and they wanted over $100 for it, which shocked me because their prices were always quite low, even for the rare titles.

It's a shame it has never been released on DVD or Blu-ray so more people could see that amazing film.

I believe the Japanese release laserdisc has an extended cut of the film. Too bad the copy I have is pretty badly rotted.

yes, it is a longer cut Mike the Wizard (The Wizard of Speed and Time) (1989) [KYLY-59004]
my japanse copy is starting to show some spots, but hey it's still rare and worth it!
i also have the smaller 8 inch disc Wizard of Speed and Time, The: Premium Disc (1988) [KYMY-59004]
very cool for players that don't have good trick play on CLV discs.
the final stop motion scene is all CAV and has lots of messages to read.

a great film that works well with LD still step

First time I saw it on LD many many years ago, the player couldn't live pause, so we temporarily dubbed to SVHS while watching to be able to go frame by frame on the tape.

Last time I bid on one on ebay I bowed out as it just got too expensive.

A friend of mine has it, but apparently his LD collection is difficult to get to in his house and he hasn't pulled it out.

I actually e-mailed Jittlov a few years back to see if he'd allow me to give him a player in exchange for copying his copy to SVHS, but he wasn't interested at that point. Maybe I'll e-mail him again sometime. He has quite the sense of humor, a buddy had e-mailed him once and opened with "Qapla!" in Klingon from Star Trek, and Jittlov replied "in Klingon" with English subtitles.

I somehow missed this thread when it first came up.

Regarding The Wizard of Speed and Time, I'm a big fan of this movie since randomly running across it in a rental shop in the early 90s. I recently bought the Japanese LD for something like $25 from Recobanchou. Its rot free. I'm trying to find the LD Single but nobody has it for sale right now.

My copy of the full film came with an insert that seems to describe the LD Single so I think I have it already! Its not folded in forths like the lddb says, but maybe one of these guys stuck the insert in the wrong jacket. Its a really crude photocopy. My copy of the movie has a sticker on it saying that if you send in the answer card you get the LD Single. I don't have the answer card so quite possibly the original owner did this.

I will PM you my offer.
