Post subject: New to Site, but not to LD's Posted: 17 Aug 2012, 23:44 |

Looks like I am going to really enjoy this site, some great information here for me to consume. I have had a Laserdisc player and around 40 movies since around 97', bought my LD player I still use to this day for $40, came with National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Genesis Live in Concert. I traded my N64 a couple games for the rest of the movies I've had for the past 15 years.
Just this month I was browsing ebay and decided to search my favorite TV show of the 90's, Thunder in Paradise. Well, low and behold all 3 of the movies came up in a lot on laserdisc for a starting bid of 19.99 and just an hour left on the clock. Needless to say I won the auction and have won 2 other lots of discs since then containing some great movies from my childhood like The Wizard and TMNT II. My plan is to collect the movies I will watch over and over so no telling how many I may end up with. I have double my collection in just 2 weeks for those 40ish movies I've had for 15 years.
I love the look and style of Laserdisc, so much fun to talk about with people who did not know the format existed. I have had a LD player since I was 15, no reason to go back now.

You might as well have all means of optical disc format Laserdisc, Muse, DVD HD-DVD and bluray. I find Laserdisc as the edge of playing back scenes at faster rate over the others and that's what makes it fun for me to enjoy in peace in the home. What about UMD and MiniDisc-Video? Oh, and VCD, SVCD, China's two HD DVD standards...

Good afternoon xtremegamer, Just read your initial post and enjoyed reading what you wrote. Welcome to the forum, they are all a great bunch of guys here and I find we all belong.........Something very rare to find. I must admit that those who embraced this fine format in it's day and, even now are of a different class of movie collector. Personally I fealt that when DVD came along, Something noticeably precious was lost. It's hard to describe, Laserdisc collectors connect more with others, and that's why a number of us would describe Laserdisc as a whole, is an experience and not just a movie format............... Your amongst friends here

Thanks for the nice welcomes! I do plan to expand my collection of LD's, just with having a budget might only be once a month I am able to add stuff to the collection.
So what is everyones take on opening sealed movies? I have collected video games for about 7 years and opening a sealed vintage game is a big no no.
Also, I have never had an issue with any of my LD's until this last lot I bought off of the bay, the movie Speed, the sound is all gargled, is this a form of rot? Disc seems to be a decent enough shape.

Good day xtremegamer, Your welcome My personal views on opening New sealed Laserdisc's is this: I buy Laserdisc's to watch them and so I open them , after all that is the whole purpose of why they produced them. The Speed Movie Problem . . . . . .Could be a rot problem, but personally I have never read that this Movie has had Disc rot problems. I also have this 1 x US and also the Japanese version. Is your player in good shape? Does it play the rest of your movies without a problem ? A Laserdisc can look perfectly alright by it's looks but not so when playing back. Have you looked at this sites disc rotters list to see if there have been any problems with this title. I must admit that I have'nt looked at this for some time now. I hope my two pennies worth is of some help Sincere Regards
