Just checking in to say hello to you guys and offer up a brief bio..

Picked up my laserdisc player - a Pioneer CLD-D925 approx 8 years ago off ebay and acquired some of the usual suspects in short order: Criterion Bonds, Blade Runner, Star Wars Definitive etc! My attraction to the format was (is) based on getting original format versions of films I'm interested in and whilst I moved away from the hobby for a while, I'm back as it's something that appears to be an ever increasing issue as time moves on. Typically as we know, laserdisc seems to be the last gasp for original/rare audio mixes and non-revisionist colour timing. Classy gatefold covers and the ability to indulge in (formerly) high end video hardware that has a lot more soul than blu ray and, god forbid, streaming is an added bonus!

My viewing is done on a 16:9 crt - 32" Panasonic PD30 that I got second hand and was one of the last top/good quality PAL crts. Big enough to get a good sized picture on pillar boxed Academy ratio stuff and not toooo destructive on a zoomed letterbox image! Audio is via a decent Yamaha amp and Monitor Audio RS speakers - no sub (yet). Just got a Meridian 519 AC3 demodulator for a nice price so we'll see (hear) what some 5. at 384kbps sounds like... I also suspect another player or two will be in my future.

Anyway I'll hopefully dip into threads here and there, asking the odd question and maybe even answering some.

Nice to meet you!

Thanks guys. Sorry firehorse I'm not. As much as I am interested in sport (which is not a huge amount) it's US stuff: football, baseball. I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan and before you roll your eyes I've followed them off or on for over 30 years thanks to a long gone sports magazine show on ITV called World of Sport. They had a segment called international sports special and once a year it would be extended highlights of the Superbowl. I was/am fascinated by most things American and watching this at a young age it made quite an impression - this was the Cowboys v Steelers years and I guess I just preferred the Cowboys' uniforms!

Yep - rollercoaster Cowboys

Patriots are a machine as usual. But Peyton Manning's been great and I'd like to see how far Denver can go. For this weekend and bearing in mind I'm writing this after the results but don't know them (watching highlights show on BBC tomorrow) Packers for sure... despite RGIII - Seahawks over Redskins. I'd like to see the Colts progress - rookie power!

Well tim_p, thanks for your prediction  We WON

I didn't like that RGIII was injured, made it a bit lopsided, but we got a win

Good morning tim_p,

Welcome to the lddb forum.

It's good to see another LD enthusiast based in the UK joining the site.

I enjoyed reading your introduction message. . . .Thank you :), as it's always a pleasure to read of other's AV experiences.

Hope to correspond with yourself at some stage.

Sincere Regards
