Hey, everyone! My name is Terry & I am from Toronto (Ontario), Canada. I`ve been collecting laserdiscs for around 8 years, although my buying has definitely tailed off (along with local sellers) in the past 5 years.

I got into laserdiscs when I started working at a video store just before Christmas 2002. My boss Greg, was talking about the wonders of laserdisc and how great his copy of Star Wars Trilogy: Definitive Collection [0693-84] was. He said that flipping the disc and even changing discs were minor sacrifices for satisfaction he got from this collection & I was piqued...

Fast forward 6 months or so & found a collector who was parting with about 20-25 laserdiscs & a player. I think I paid about $150 for huge rubbermaid tub full of laserdiscs including Zulu, Diva & Citizen Kane on Criterion, 2001: 25th Anniversary Edition & Star Wars, although the Star Wars Trilogy: Special Edition (1997) [4102985]

I ended up having to lug this 25-30 kg tub of laserdiscs on to the subway & home, but it was worth it. I was hooked. After that I started to fervidly build up my criterion, foreign (truffaut & kurosawa) and collection of movies that still had never seen a release on DVD. All these years later I'm so glad I never had to wait for inferior DD versions of my favourite films like: Greed, Salvador, The African Queen, Double Indemnity, The Magnificent Ambersons & of course Star Wars.

I love that this site is so carefully maintained and that laserdiscs continue to be discovered my film buffs all over the world.

Lastly, I finally bought a house last year just west of Toronto to house my collection & hopefully slowly continue to expand upon it. :)

Anyone who uses "greetings & salutations" deserves a high five back! :) Should've read further down the board before posting my intro - and here I thought I was being original...HA!

Hi ktredshoes, high five! Heathers is definitely one of my favourite films, glad to see someone else on here who loves it too. I am also a huge fan of the Powell/Pressburger fan The Red Shoes (guessing that is the reference with your name) & bought the restored criterion blu-ray last year. I still wonder how it compares to the LD criterion though. Do you have it ?

Hi, my name is Elie Barnes 3, from windsor, ontario.

i have read about Laserdiscs on wikipedia, while i don't currently HAVE ANY, i am curious: is it worth it to sell 90% of my vhs tapes, get a 400 dollar laserdisc player off ebay and replace the sold vhs tapes with laserdiscs?

say getting one of the pioneer elite players.
also, i notice that laserdisc issues of early movies have a stereo track, while vhs counterparts did NOT. (example: superman the movie, original vhs was in mono, but the laserdisc had a stereo track)

then we have repair and wear on the laser, still more info needed.
i wish my mom had laserdiscs in the 80's!

this website is mega-cool.
is it me, or does laserdiscs not have the previews that you find on vhs tapes?
