Hello to all...

My name is Eric and I'm addicted to laser discs.

By day, I am a Radar Electronics Technician. By night, I take care of my two year old. I squeeze in a hobby or two in my idle time.

The shadowy world Laser discs is one of those hobbies... CSI... DUNT Dunt DUNT!

Seriously, here is my abbreviated tale in Laser-disc lore...

Like Johnny Cash, one piece at a time, my home theater room started taking shape in 2002.

I purchased a 65 disc collection and a Sony MDP-1000 in 2004 because I thought laser discs were dabble-worthy and it was only $120. Don't knock the Sony too much. Its built like a tank and has a 50 db S/N ratio. Not bad, but not so good.

Two Klipsch Forte II speakers in 2005 for mains found at an auction. They gave them away to me at $150. My college days era Bose 301 were downgraded to surrounds.

Bought another 2 smaller collections in 2010 and 2011. For a total of 140 discs. Got another Sony Player MDP-650. A better player, but still OK. A broken Pioneer DVL-700 sold on the flea-bay.

My interest in Laser discs was rekindled in 2012 when my two year old started watching Toy Story. She just loves that movie. Time to go all in!

Bought another small collection of 25 movies, including Star Wars definitive, 5 other box sets, and a Pioneer CLD-604 for the low sum of $100 off craigslist. Now I have a real player!

Now that I had an AC-3 out, now what to do? Time to ditch my circa 1990 kenwood receiver and upgrade. I chose a Yamaha RX-V1. Why buy a demodulator for $150 when you can buy something like this for around $300?

Lastly, in January my wife let me enjoy more insanity and I bought a 1000+ disc collection.

I set up a shop on the LDDB, and will Johnny Cash (one piece at a time) the collection until I just have the titles that my family wants.

This site is a tremendous resource. We are lucky to have it!

Enjoy those discs! Now all I need is time to watch a movie...
