Just wanted to say hi. I recently picked up a panasonic lx-101 at goodwill for 40.00 with a few sealed movies the exorcist, young frankenstein, terminator, the liguini incident, interview with a vampire. One thing I noticed is that toward the end of every disk all of them begin to slowly develop wavy lines/static and the disk begins to skip. I am certain that this is just an alignment issue which could be cured with a simple servicing. I know this player plays CD's but someone told me that it would also play VCD's.
Anyone got any opinions on this player?

Panasonic made players?
sorry, can't help you with that, but players are easy to come by on Craigslist in lots. Try there.

Hi Josephdaniel,

I'm pretty new here as well. However, I have been heavily into the LD format for around 18 years. I have only one non-Pioneer deck in my systems and that is my Denon.

The primary reason for this is because my LD tech will only work on Pioneer. Players of many brands are inexpensive on line and elsewhere. With experience and guidance, you will learn which ones to avoid.

Many LD enthusiasts, here, have a lot of experience with many brands, but I'm wondering if it is worth while to buy players outside the Pioneer brand. There are so many Pioneers to be had anyway for so little money so why bother?

Regarding the playback of your titles, if they all have issues playing at the same point then you are probably correct with a machine error. The next question is wether it is worth trying to fix it or simply purchase another inexpensive player. I like eBay with local pick up options. First the seller has a posted reliability factor so if they say it works well then you are not buying a pig-in-a-poke as you are at a thrift store.

Local pick up is nice because the player is not subjected to the handling process of the mailing service.

Good luck and I hope your future with LD will be long and prosperous.

L

welcome. I have never heard of an LD player playing VCD. They might have confused it with else. I am drawing a blank on the other LDs called.

Pioneer seems to still have parts for it so its easier to fix but players can be inexpensive depending on the model so it might not be worth it to fix one as oppose to buying a good used one possibly with more features than the broken one.

i'm brand new here myself. i started developing a passing fancy for LD around 2000, when i first learned of it,
and it grew into a passion as i started building a disc collection and getting ever better players, starting around 2005ish.

i've been through a 1990 CLD-1080, a 1987 LD-838D, and finally a 1988 CLD-3030, which i intend to stich with until the day
i can no longer obtain replacements and/or parts for it...
