Post subject:  Hi everyone.

Never said hello or dipped into the forums before, so I thought I'd say hello.

Just in the process of adding my collection to the database and sorting through a load of duplicates that I have for sale, checking out prices etc. I will be pestering people for the best set up for my system.

I love laserdiscs the same way some audiphiles love vinyl records. For me, a Sunday is spent getting out a few laserdiscs, reading through the covers and booklets and watching a few movies. Can't beat it.

My friends think I'm mad for loving a "dead" format, but laserdiscs are far from dead for me.

agree, i've been getting into buying early pressed CDs pre remastered and they remind me of LDs in so many ways.

early versions of films before they removed stuff that i personally like, the reel change markers, open matte and more.
call me crazy but i like seeing the boom mic :D

I totally agree with all that you mentioned.

All formats live quite happily together in my system, and my Laserdisc collection is quite the talking point when friends arrive and think that they are Vinyl Records, when I tell them that they are actually Movies, they say WHAT!!!!!!!

I shall look forward to corresponding with you at some stage.

Sincere Regards

Hello Nottsville

Thanks for making yourself known and making your (substantial) collection viewable.

A question for you and the other UK denizens of this thread. Do you share my opinion that LDs made by the PDO factory seem to be more susceptable to laser rot than those from other factories? I am amazed by the high proportion of PDO discs that cross my path that are rotty. I have only a couple that are unplayable (those with digital sound seem the worst) but pretty much all of them seem degraded to some extent.

A quick glance through my PAL collection shows I only have two discs from PDO UK. Strangely they are also the two discs that I experimented with ripping and uploading clips to YouTube.

Flight of Dragons, The (1982) [791 536-1] is so rotted that my first player 9 times out of 10 won't play it but when it does it looks like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZ-STP9C9Vc. On my second player it plays every time but it can never find the audio. I'm not sure if this is because of rot or if the DVL 919E can't play PAL analog audio as this is the only analog PAL title I own.

Queen: Live in Budapest (1986) [080 510-1] plays perfectly with no sign of rot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kakNj_SMso

So I've got the two extremes by the sounds of it.
