Having only got my first player in February I guess I'm still pretty new to the wide world of laserdiscs but I'm enjoying it very much.

So far I've amassed 27 LDs of varying quality, genres and rarity and although small I think it's a decent collection. For anyone interested my collection is here: http://www.lddb.com/collection.php?action=list&user=hippiedalek

I've dabbled a little bit with the retro flix forum but I've mostly been involved with the quieter dino disc forum, somehow I feel both may become fairly obsolete now that lddb has started a forum.

Over the past few months I have been working on a project in my spare time; the Laserdisc Wiki. The aim is to create a site based on the media wiki engine that allows the user to browse and find information about the format in an easy, familiar way. I didn't set it up as an opposition to lddb, to be honest I don't think that would be possible, more as an alternative that contained different details about releases and articles on laserdisc technology and hardware. You've probably already noticed the problem with this, and that is the first sentence of this post. I've explored and researched the format as much as I can but I have very little practical experience with many aspects of the format so I've almost taken the site as far as I can. As it is a wiki I always intended the site to be updated by more than just me, I've mentioned it on the dino disc forum but now it's time to bring it to a wider audience.

I would be interested to know what the members of this forum think of this site. What would you change? Once more information is on it would you find it useful? Do you find it useful already? Would you use the site? Should I continue?

So far I've put a lot of hard work into the site, but there would be no point in continuing if no one actually uses it. Please check it out at http://laserdisc.wikkii.com and let me know what you think.

I hope this hasn't come across as spam, I am genuinely wanting feedback for this fledgling site.

Sorry for the long post, I'm really looking forward to getting into this new forum and community.

Haven't been thoroughly through your website, but shouldn't release-specific information live on LDDb.com while format-specific knowledge should naturally join wikipedia.com?

Hi Julien,

I think that is what most people will do as both sites are well established.

I meant to post a few example entries for releases in my post but forgot.

I think these two articles best show what I see as the potential of the site.

Obviously I don't expect the wiki will ever be as widely used as lddb, and I don't really intend it to be a replacement or duplication. The wiki has a much more limited scope focusing on information, it doesn't have all the wonderful social networking, list features and shops of lddb. lddb is the hub of the LD community, now this forum is running doubly so. You've done an excellent job : )
