I see you have a VSX-D1S receiver - I have one too and still think its an amazing receiver. Plus, its DSP based Pro-Logic decoding is incredible. I also have a VSX-9300 receiver, which was the very first receiver to have Pro-Logic built in. Pioneers variable-bias amplifiers still sound great today, delivering gobs of power and never sounding strained or clipping. I have a 6 tape Compact Cassette changer deck from Pioneer too - its nice because in addition to Dolby B and C, it has DBX Type-II and a "Disc" position to use the DBX decoder for DBX encoded LP's. I wanted one of the Dolby-S equipped Pioneer cassette decks when they came out - The Audio Critic magazine gave it a great review - but the $1,400 price tag stopped that desire in its tracks. Your collection as well as the layout is beautiful. |

Plus, its DSP based Pro-Logic decoding is incredible... it is indeed. while it's DPL/DSP SURROUND feature suite might not be of much utility in today's digital-centric world, as a two-channel stereo amplifier, it is lethally potent and gorgeously full bodied in acoustical character. further, it's a just about impossible to beat value at the $300ish or so that well cared for examples generally tend to get listed at. my copy was picked up off the BAY, complete with box, manual and accessories, and claimed to have seen but a few hours of use after initial purchase in 1990/91ish, and to have thence been in long-term unused storage since. in practice, almost damn near as NOS as it gets... |
