Nice to discover this site. If you do a Google search on my name, Rockley Miller, you will find that I was the primary editor and publisher covering the field beginning with Videodisc News in 1980 and ending with Multimedia Monitor which I sold to Philips Publishing in 1996. I was primarily focused on the non-consumer markets of training, education, marketing, kiosks, etc., but certainly covered the consumer developments as part of the overall industry. Just didn't get into movie reviews and the like. More the new players and sales stats, channels, title deals, etc. I also was the founding president and later chairman of the board of the original Interactive Video Industry Association (IVIA) which later changed its name to Interactive Multimedia Association (IMA) and eventually merged into the Software Publishers Association. During my years covering the pioneers in the industry I was also on many of the right mailing lists and ended up with quite an extensive collection of both consumer and educational titles, most still new in shrink wrap. I am very impressed by this service and its front end interface for uploading my titles. I'm just getting started. And am looking forward to using the available tools to value them. Not too sure how many I want to sell yet but I am sure I will be willing to part with some of them. I do have a lot of classics, including early Criterion Collections and a number of DiscoVision and other special sets. I also have quite a few special titles that are not in the consumer data base. Early work from the University of Nebraska with National Geographic, VPI, and others. Don't know how to properly list those yet since I don't see a way to add a new publisher to the list. But I figure out something. All my LDs have been stored properly and rarely played if not still in shrink wrap.

Congrats again to the founder of this data base for serving the collectors and for keeping the format alive. I especially appreciate the role he is now playing since I served as the information hub for the entire industry for close to 17 years, traveled the world, spoke at or keynoted most of the major conventions and conferences, opened the first public Interactive Multimedia Gallery called Tech2000 in TechWorld Plaza in Washington DC, and ended up with a newsletter that grew to 32 pages monthly with no ads. It was quite a great time to be part of it all. And a very inspiring community of early developers, hardware vendors, publishers, media replicators, and end users from around the world. I am in the process of scanning and preparing to upload my entire history of newsletters, other articles, book forwards, chapters and intros, and my articles and editorials covering the entire history of the field. It should be a valuable resource and I'll alert this forum when I get it up.

All the best,

Rockley Miller

Welcome to the Forum Rockley!

If you have tidbits, insider stories and funny memories of the "big shiny discs" period, I'm quite sure everyone will be interested to hear them.
