Hey everyone, I picked up a Pioneer CLD-R7G last week after collecting some LD boxes just for the art the past month. This is my first player in about 20 years since i had a name-unknown single-sided tank from the 1980s. Sadly there's no more shops even in Tokyo as far as I know (the last ones I knew of closed a few years back), so it's online shopping all the way, but I'm really enjoying it. This place looks informative and fun so I'm looking forward to it. Cheers. |

Thanks guys. admin, yeah, I spent probably 30 hours researching online before grabbing the r7g. i would've preferred an x9 but one shootout said the r7g even had some wins over the x9 and i could buy 6 of them for the price anyway. in this day and age i can't say it wowed me but it certainly didn't disappoint. after getting the 3d comb filter on (it was confusing even with the manual) and black levels set (it has the D-Ext black-boosting from the x9), it looks good. |

Hard off Hachioji Ohwada http://www.hardoff.co.jp/info_db.php?nu ... &gyotai08= I think that once is worth visiting there. |

yes, very good player, i went with one due to cost about 10 years ago. it was cheaper and i couldn't see spending that much on a dead format when it was dead, but i keep buying LDs and its dead you will be very happy with that player, i never had any issues with rubber parts on that yet. any electronics shop should carry any parts you need, if not it is based on a USA player but i can't really remember. also you could just get an O ring from the hardware store that is the same size IF its the correct thickness when all else fails. ________________________________ the rein-o official signature:

cold_sleeper, thanks, yeah i'll get there eventually, but it's almost 2 hours away as I'm in central Tokyo, like visiting another prefecture! If only I'd bought the player a few years earlier. There were at least 5-10 shops a stone's throw away in Akihabara before the gentrification/commercialization project. rein-o, very cool, thanks for the info! by the way, could i ask you your settings on the R7G? for animation, i have everything all the way up, except sharpness at midway. it looks more like an interlaced dvd that way, but it was just a quick setup when i took it out of the box. for film, on avsforums a person recommended: YNR: Min (off), CNR: Max, 3D Y/C: mid-point, Sharp: Min (off). |

i don't even know if i have it on or not. if it is on its not on one of the memory settings just standard. i'm watching predator right now and have to look at the manual to double check. but standard is all in the middle, the 3D is down 1 notch and the last one is off. you will just have to mess around with it, i know when i was tweeking it in the past i noticed some settings being a little better than others but sort of left it in the mid range. the only issue i had in the past few months was a black ghosting image, i just spoke with grasshopper and he said that it was the settings on the projector. never had these issues before but now my room is smaller and i'm sitting closer to the projector screen. now its all good, but only settings i changed were from the projector. ________________________________ the rein-o official signature:

Tokyo is so boring in laserdiscs. Rare records have some but rarely any new stuff, they also take some deep prices on some items. I recomend rare records in nakano, atleast they get some new stuff sometimes. Hard off in hachoiji is not what it used to be in ld selection. But they have some music lds which they actually take care for right in the entrance. |
