Greetings from IL! I'm glad to find this great site for info and advice and whatnot, looking forward to watching my collection grow. As an introduction, I've always been a huge movie buff and also collect retro games and the like, and while pawing through the goods at Goodwill, came across a nice selection of LD's and ended up picking up Jaws, Back to the Future 1 & 2, Hook, Alien, & Aliens for a mere $2.99 a piece! I figured they'd make a cool collection to just have around. About 3 months ago I was trolling around a secondhand store and came across a Pioneer CLD-D406 priced at $9.99. There was a note attached saying they had no LD's to test, but CD's would play, so I figured it was worth a gamble. When I brought it up to buy, the lady pointed out the note, but I said I had some discs at home and would give it a whirl, but she ended up knocking off a couple dollars for me "just in case". Brought it home to my "Retro Room", hooked it up, and all my discs worked great! End result: awesome LD player for $7.99 and a kick-butt retro format to collect for! |
