Hi Everyone,

Call me Tux, I'm from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I speak French too si tu préfères ça.

I've been a collector ever since I was a kid, Marvel cards, Star Trek cards, comics, then later when I had more money old video games and consoles. A few years ago I found some old Beta cassettes in my parents' basement and ended up looking all around town for a deal on a Beta deck so I could see what was on 'em. I finally got one, and discovered all kinds of fun stuff! Commercials from the 80s, some security camera footage, old taped shows) so that kind of got me into VHS collecting. I'm not a huge VHS guy, I've got maybe 30 tapes, but they're all stuff that has nostalgic value to me and when I feel like something Lo-Fi I pop one in. The VHS collecting kind of led naturally to reading about laserdiscs, and I just found the LaserDisc technology really interesting, especially considering how long LD has been around! It was quite advanced for its day! I also like that LDs have analog video on a format that doesn't (unlike VHS) degrade with time (minus the occasional case of rot!) Reading about how video on laserdiscs was stored, and how it's processed and displayed has also been very interesting. I've learned quite a bit about how TVs work and such. I've learned that my old Toshiba analog TV must have quite a good comb filter, 'cause LD looks great on it.

My player is a Pioneer LD-V2200, I've heard it called an "industrial" model. Single side play, no AC3 RF out (planning on modifying it to add this however) but does have one neat feature, a serial port on the back allowing the player to be controlled by computer. I'm going to wire this up pretty soon, maybe code up a little web app in PHP to control the player for fun.

Anyway... I love old hardware, and I love LD cover art and the physical presence of the discs, and I love movies, so I've bought myself a modest collection of about 40 discs to start, and I'll probably buy a few discs every year from now on, so you'll probably see me around here from time to time!
