Ok. The long and short of it.
Hello there.
My name is William Wallace Wright III.
My friends call me Will, or "Big Will."
I have been a Laserdisc renter/buyer since the 90's.
Was a IATSE Projectionist for 7 years.
Worked for Fox, Carmike, AMC, Regal, UA, General Cinema ,
and even a couple of "Mom and Pop" owned "Art Houses"
Been selling big screens and home theatres and doing installs since before 9-11.
On-line contributor Laserdisc Forever Facebook page since 2009....ish?
Into Movies, Sci-Fi and Hi-Fi. Self proclaimed Tech Head.
Have been accessing LDDB since 2003-
when I was a store manager for little company called Rex TV
which I worked for almost 10 years.
Have owned/ sold more gear over the years than I can/ or even care to remember.
Yep I own a turntable or two..or three.
Yep I'm one of those.
- Lets not mentions speakers and amps.........ok?
Current #disc in collection: Over 500
Current LD Player: My 25 year old Pioneer LD-V8000.
(The way newer 700 died -) "It's dead Jim" - Yep Trekkie since early 80's.
So why now?
Why wait nearly some two full years to after when some said the world was going to end
and 4KUHD has arrived to finally join LDDB ?
I was HOLDING OUT of course. Just the way I roll...

- I guess one of the things I learned with other groups was that it seemed like
as soon as a joined, someone - somewhere out there -was always wanting to
attempt to sell me..... something.
Never cared for that. It was Always a real turn off, and a put off at that.
So Anyway-
Spent most of my non-working down time so engrossed into my a/v passions that
I really never wanted to stop and take a minute to contribute.
Besides - back in the day - someone else always had the answers - or had a better gear -
or knew more. Etc etc etc. Get it?
Now I'm finding that due to my knowledge , experience and most of all......
my age, now I have more 411 to contribute .
Not that I saying I'm starting some new trend here.
No, I wouldn't go that far.
However, I did write a blog about it !
And since so many Facebook users over on the LD Forever Page ( and others ) have accounts here,
I just thought ... What The Hell ?.... and finally threw in the towel. So...........
I raise my glass, and offer a toast:
To Blue Skies ahead ......

Good morning Will,

Welcome aboard sir........Good to have you here.

I have just read your ''i guess long over due introduction here''
All I can say is(and this is a compliment) that there is nothing wrong with reading and getting a feel for a site before one participates with ref corresponding with others....

It's always sensible to get the lay of the land with any site and it's members, especially the niche ones such as this.

I remember being banned from a site once as they accused me of being far to polite......YES I AM NOT KIDDING!

This is the site that I mostly visit and post on and to be honest I am quite happy with that, due & mostly down to the fact that I have very little time to myself..........one day a week.

The equipment that I have is unique to me & as such each item of hardware has it's own story to tell, have worked and saved for many hours and even years to obtain............That's fine because I appreciate everything far more and am all the better for that.

I have a great deal to learn about this pastime, but am happy to take my time and enjoy the journey along each step, the main thing is that I enjoy watching my movies and love the music that one purchases.

I like the way in which you condensed your introduction down, but at the same time ''and I hope I got this right about what you wrote.....So please forgive me if not'' you are not a time waster, you are happy being you and just want others to know that CLEARLY........I get that and can truly appreciate where your coming from.......Truly.

By what you wrote the wealth of knowledge you must have, & a great deal of unique experiences in the field of movies and projection ect, and that's good to read.

I have gained friends here that are appreciated, and one in particular who I class as my brother, and no doubt others can say the same for others who share pm messages with.

What you said about the number of Vinyl decks that you have is TOTALLY UNDERSTOOD, as I myself invested heavily into the Laserdisc format.........it's my thing and besides the way I look at it, is that I could have spent my money on far worse things than this and so it's comforting.

Anyways I shall end by saying that in due course ''no doubt'' we shall correspond.

Kind regards to you Will and thank you for sharing a little about yourself with us all here.

  :D

Hello - Good evening to you UK - & thanks 4 the welcome there laddie - and hope you also read one of the greatest A/V magazines published in the whole world - from in your backyard no less - and that's " WHAT HI-FI ? Sound & Vision" , because over here in this bloody mess of a thing that some call "melting pot" - known as "The States" or good old Imperial America 2 the rest of the world - your lovely little kick a** magazine runs me about $11-Dollars US - that's per issue -thanks to our pitifully weak/worthless paper money next to the f# ( sorry - our GD keyboards also lack the proper symbol for English currency - can you believe it?)

Good morning Will,
Yes I am aware of the gradual decline in the US Dollar........World events and the agenda are a special interest of mine sir.

1) $11 For what HiFi WOW! that's really steep
2) £4,50 pence in good old blighty approx price anyways

We have another AV Mag called "HOME CINEMA CHOICE" of which I used to subscribe to, but no longer do so, as I watch every penny...........A great magazine none the less thou.

The DVD / LD equipment that I had imported to the UK from the US has cost a great deal when going through UK Customs.....But I am one of the Determined sort........I did complain about these unfair charges to HRC, they admitted but explained that their hands are tied with this.

Good to read from you Will

Kind Regards to you

Well Wiil, I sent you a private message (I guess). I saw your post on Laserdisc Forever on FB that you had made the leap. I have been on the LDDB site for a while but never got serious until a few months ago. I'm retired and decided that I had the time to enter all of my discs. I have not made my list public yet but will. I really like seeing the info that has been compiled on individual discs on this database.

I have been enamored by Laseriscs since they first became available. Before that, naturally I was into VHS. I can't begin to tell you how much money I have spent on my hobby but I have always been in love with TV, Video and music.

I migrated over to DVD in the late 90's and over the year have bought about a thousand or more, I am also just over a 1000 in Laserdiscs. Got a shipment in today from Duff's that consisted of about 25 discs. I had no idea until I found the Laserdisc Forever group on FB that there were so many people still interested in the format. Finding the FB group and this site has rekindled my interest. I never totally stopped watching my laserdiscs but I did neglect them for a while (did not watch as much).

I consider myself very fortunate, I have two home theaters, one primarily dedicated to laserdisc and the other kinda dedicated to DVD. I can play both formats in either theater. You are probably wondering why anyone would do that. The way it happened is when I built my house in 2001, I had always wanted a dedicated home theater including theater seating and overhead projector, so I built one.

At my previous house, I had a small home theater along with associated equipment. When I moved, I could not bring myself to part with my old equipment so I put a second theater in my room over my garage for laserdisc.

Drop me a note sometime, welcome aboard.
