Hey guys! I'm happy to be here. The Database is incredible, and it might just force me to spend what some may consider to be an unhealthy amount of money on LaserDiscs...
I just recently picked up a CDL-53 for cheap and I am currently binging through my relatively small collection of 30 or so discs. I have found a few casualties of rot since the last time I went through them, which is sad, but I suppose not surprising. Luckily they were both pretty crappy transfers to begin with, so no huge loss.
I have discovered that I only have a single disc with CAV playback, which is the
second side of Disk 1 of Star Trek: Generations highlighting the crash of the Enterprise and the battle that precedes it, along with the direct copy rip-off of the Bird of Prey explosion from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
I love it so much and wish I had more CAV discs. As I understand
Star Wars: The Definitive Collection is all CAV, but also slightly prone to rot, and with that many disks, I don't know if I'd want to risk it for the money. I've also heard that the uncut
Robocop Special Edition from Criterion is excellent. Does anyone have any other CAV favorites I should be on the lookout for?
I've already had a lot of helpful people assisting me with some minor problems with my CLD-53 and I appreciate the warm welcome, so thanks for being here, and I look forward to contributing to the community in the future.
