Hello from Oklahoma!
I'm PK_D501, new to the forum but, not collecting laserdiscs.
It started in high school with an old Pioneer LD-V2200, free from a school tossing it in the dumpster, took home and it powered on and shot the tray out, at the time I had not software however. A bit of time passed and a good tester came up, a copy of Bubblegum Crisis V1, and a remote. Once I got it I put it in and low and behold the old beast fired up and played, and the video quality wasn't bad for such an old player. Over the next few years I aquired a few more anime discs and a couple of samples. Fast forward a few years and my now fiance is intrested, and found a nice player (Pioneer CDL-D501) and a nice small collection. Now after another hiatus, we are back at it having purchased a copy of Star Wars Collectors Edition. Unfortunately in the past couple years the LD-V2200 has stopped loading discs so, it will be my repair/maintenance test mule. Looking forward to enjoying the knowledge of fellow enthusiasts and learning more about the format.

P.S.
We are now married and have a litte Laserdisc fan, a little lady, to carry on the legend of laserdisc!

Good morning pk_d501,

I have just read your introduction Friend,
Thank you for sharing a little about yourself

Well done with sticking with the Laserdisc format, yes I has that effect on those who cannot but admire these large fine discs.
In the day when the latest titles came to the market shelves of the independent stores ect, one felt that with each title you were owning a piece of movie history that had no equal and to this day has none.........I for one am glad I collected when I did.

P.S. Let hope the little lady enjoy this as much as you have......and congratulations

Kind Regards

Wow. Your 2200 stopped working? How?

Probably a belt. I've had a V8000 that needs a few attempts to eject to get moving and the V2200 (while based mostly off a consumer player) might be similar.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I was to young in the hey day of laserdisc (born in 87')to aquire a player and discs but, I have always been intrested in cool oldschool tech, especially cars (my other hobby) and A/V, and remember the old electronics stores with the big home theater demos and always wanted my own setup like that and vaguely remembered "silver albums that played movies". When I found the 2200 it sparked memories of this after figuring out what it was, I had to see if it worked. For now the 2200 is in storage however, it will be pulled out for troubleshooting and repair, it powers on pops out the tray but, when I hit play it doesn't load, indicated by a "disc lock" status light. I had read it's possibly the loading belt. The D501 needs a lube and spring adjustment on the disc tray door. Both players have been awesome so far but, one day I'd like a super nice, high-performance, player to mess with like an X9 and maybe an oddity like a LD-W1, of course, you can never have enough LD's to enjoy. Any advice for the maintenance and repair is welcome and thanks again guys for the warm welcome.

And for fun here is the small collection we've got so far

Belated welcome! And I don't think you made your collection public yet (mine isn't, mostly because it's woefully incomplete!)

Thanks happycube, and glad you mentioned it, it is now public. Mine is small and has some incomplete anime and movie sets too so don't feel bad, I look at mine as more a work in progress.

Nice - we're the same age, and I've also alway been interested in old school tech! Though I gravitate more toward old video games, Apple computers and audiovisual gear than cars (I do like reading about cars!)

My collection's currently private due to large gaps in it, and will mostly be anime and Disney stuff!

The old cars for me, as far as tech goes, are where I learned alot beyond just mechanical stuff, it made me learn electronics and electrical repair, before I wouldn't have dared attempt surgery on an ld player. My current project car is a 1st gen RX-7 with it's (though definately not stock)1.1 Mazda/Wankle rotarty, with a carburetor! Kinda like LD's she's a throwback to the 80's/90's and has a certain, magic. Old school games have always held a place in my soul, I still have my SNES and have been on the prowl for a nice Atari 2600. I have some specific anime I'm hunting for first, where my current gaps are, before just going nuts and seeing what cool old anime I can find, I'm told some of the best were never released on DVD, and the jackets almost always look awesome on anime releases, Steel Angel Kurumi has scans of the LD jackets on the US DVD release, and they are sweet! I have noted some anime was released over multiple CAV discs then as sets, and over SEVERAL different releases for some, it's gunna be fun. Back to jackets my Dirty Pair Flash discs look awesome, frame worthy almost more reason to hunt up the rest of that set.

Hey, belated welcome! I've been skulking in the shadows for a long time and thought I'd finally creep out and say "hi!" or something and, given that you're from the same state as me and love anime, figured I might as well start here :D
I can't currently get to the majority of my LDs to inventory them as they've in the closet of my old bedroom (which is now the bedroom of my 2½-year-old son, who would very much love to get his hands on said LDs for the same reason as anything else - fun - so the closet is currently inaccessible). I do remember when I first signed up for the site some time back, I had a lot of trouble adding parts of my collection due to there just not being a large number of Japanese discs listed (at that point in time, at least), and I didn't really have the means to take good photos of covers then. I'd love to get some of my stuff out and get it added now, if it's not already in there.
One thing I've kept noticing over the years is how, even with all the special remastered, super-ultra-awesome-edition DVDs and Blu-ray discs released, there are some things that just never made it off the LD format and that's still the only way to get yours hands on it in anything resembling nice quality (or at all). Take the first Scream movie, the Star Wars Trilogy widescreen box, and the first three Bond Criterion movies for fairly big things, and then smaller ones like the original Sailor Moon LDs (omake never re-released) and the Nadia LDs (yes, I know they've re-released the ten omake episodes, but they didn't put them on the discs in the order where they should go, and I can't remember if it included all the fan art or not, either). So, despite the difficulty in storing a large number of them due to weight (had to buy some shelves with steel sides and thick wood shelves to hold mine), I can't see myself even attempting to stop getting my hands on them any time soon.
Plus, as you mentioned, not even counting the contents of each disc, a lot of them have amazing packaging and some have some extremely cool inserts ^_^

pk_d501 and xelloss-kun,

Where do you guys live? I'm in MWC for the moment. Hoping to move at the end of the year, either back to OKC or further out in the country. Because, you know, AWACS. :problem:

LOL - can totally understand that from when I spent a few nights at a relative's house there when the power was out after an ice storm!
I'm in NW OKC, pretty close to the Hwy 66 / I-44 junction :)

So haven't been as active as I'd have liked to have been but, kids and work are killer, so I figured I'd start back here. Since my last post I have yet to grab my
LD-V2200 out of storage and our CLD-D501 has unfortunately stopped working so I am in the works for a DVL-909 so that we can watch the collection while
I take a crack at figuring out the issue. That said I hope to be more active this year and with 2 laserdisc players to get running I'm sure much like the car forums
I frequent that the vast knowledge base here will be of great help.
