You might know me from the vhs world. I'm a vhs veteran (+20 years) but I've never had a LD player. I thought I'd get acquainted with the LDs, I only have 3 so far and no player. If someone can recommend agood LD player for a noob you're welcome, it has to be able to play ntsc and havea remote and preferably under 200€. I don't want to invest too much just because I want to watch 3 movies. But who knows what the future brings. |

Tervetuloa! I've visited Finland a couple of times and think it's a wonderful country with very friendly people, I hope you find the people of this forum just as friendly : ) My recommendation for people new to the format is always to just get their hands on any affordable player so they can try it out, laserdisc isn't for everyone. Once you fall in love then it's worth spending some proper money on a better player. I'd always recommend a Pioneer player as they're usually of high quality and very reliable. The other big bonus is that Pioneer still make replacement parts for their players so if it ever breaks you can easily fix it. Another thing to think about is whether you want to play both PAL and NTSC discs. You'll definitely want to play NTSC as most of the best discs are from USA and Japan, but there are still plenty of nice PAL discs to be had, plus like me you live in the EU so there maybe local discs you want. Most EU players support both formats but apparently don't play NTSC discs as well as NTSC only players, however I have a NTSC/PAL machine and NTSC seems fine to me. Those are the main things I'd think about for a first, cheaper player to test the water. After that there's things like AC3-RF, digital out and automatic side change to think about... |

the cld-d925 offers a better picture IMHO Then again, the 515 isn't horrible. It plays about everything but lacks dts output! Another thing to look for is ac-3rf out on the 515! the first batch of players produced didn't have this output! Not a tragedy if 5.1DD isn't on your wishlist The 515 might be a good way to start I've bought these around 50-100euro max in mint condition with the remote controller. good luck |

Greetings, my good neighbour in the north-east! If ac3 is of no importance to you, I could recommend the cld-1750 - based on my own experience with the player. It is nowhere in the range of one of the best european players, cld-d925, but it gets the job done and is capable of ntsc/pal playback with great results. Common model, so if parts are needed it shouldn't be that much of a problem. |

Second what Kris said about any Pioneer will give you quality until the very end. |

I use a headset so surround isn't that important imo. I can't blast the audio from a surround set, the neighbours wouldn't like it. Do you guys know where to look for a player? At least when it comes to vcrs it's down to luck, waiting and searching. I found a DVHS vcr quite recently when I wasn't looking. |

A quick question; Out of all the LDs made, how many PAL discs were made? I'm under the impression that only a small percentage were PAL discs. |

Quick check of the database says... 54,836 titles released on LaserDisc, of which 6,310 are PAL. Of course this does not address the question of how many were made (i.e. pressed), but it does give you a rough idea. |

I know there is a risk involved doing that, but I haven't found any players locally, mostly due to the format being a niche. Only one time I found a local resident selling a low-end player with some uninterested titles, but he asked high price for it - that's all! I believe you have better chances in the flea market in larger cities. Pretty common for things to show up when you don't looking for it. |

I bought a player from USA, let's hope it arrives in one piece. No chance of finding a LD player here where I live. |

Guys: Does your US Pioneer players have 3 or 2 pins? I need to buy an adaptor. |

How have you connected it up? RE |
