Well, here I am! My name is Sebastian and I come from Sweden. Perhaps I'm one of the younger LD-collectors as I'm only 17 years old, in other words I was born in 1994 and I still live with my parents. I got into Laserdisc for about a year and a half ago, before that I was a complete Blu-Ray geek (have you ever met anyone who went BACK to Laserdisc from Blu-Ray?). The main reason why I started to buy Laserdiscs wasn't because of the collectiability, it was just because I didn't, or don't now either, have any HDTV in my own bedroom. All I have is a standard CRT that appears to be pretty powerful as it can display both PAL, SECAM, NTSC 3.58 and NTSC 4.13. I didn't want to buy Dvd's, so I bought myself a Pioneer CLD-990 and the first LD I ever watched, Pulp Fiction by Criterion Collection, just blew me away and I knew that this was going to be my kind of format. Since then I have got myself a Pioneer CLD-D505 that does the job right now, as well as little over a hundered Laserdiscs. I have to admit that I have very hard to sell any of them, I'm that kind of guy who buy movies with my heart. If I ever sell some of them, it's not because I need the money, it's because I can't give any love for the LD itself (which rarely happens). Most of the movies I buy on LD are just collector's items, but I still watch the movies and sometimes it happens that I buy a cheap LD for the movie itself. If I want to watch a movie I usually buy it on Dvd though. My current goal is to get every movie by Akira Kurosawa that was released on Laserdisc by Criterion and I only have three titles left. What can you say about me other than that? I live in Skå, which is on Ekerö in Stockholm. I'm reading electricity and currently I've finished the second year. Most people call me a loner and that's not far away from the truth, though mostly I'm a moviefreak. Other than Laserdiscs and other movie format, I collect The Beatles and arcade games (Jamma). I collected videogames before but I got a bit tired of it and wanted to try out something different. |

You are not alone; although I am old by comparison (aged 36yrs) I WAS a former Laserdisc collector who dropped the format for DVD and then Blu ray but have gone back to collecting. There are just too many titles not available on or do not have the same supplemental material on DVD/BD as do their older LD counterparts. Thanks for joining us here, Brian |
