I just thought I'd introduce myself and express my gratitude for the wonderful database you have built here!

I got my first LD player when I was about 15 way back when in 1996 and though it was hard to find titles, I never regretted my purchase.

I was lucky that we had a shop near us (a couple actually) that sold them so I had the chance to build a modest collection back then.

When DVD dropped I passed my discs and equipment over to my parents and on Christmas day, my mother came by and dropped my player over with a handful of discs and I was amazed how well it held up. I tried it on my CRT and it looked ok but on my HDTV the composite filter is so advanced you could be forgiven for thinking the picture was DVD RGB! If playing a "squeezed" LD I'm sure the average user would have no idea it was a LD!

Now I'm on a mission to build a collection of all the discs I wanted back in the day but couldn't afford or find plus a few amazing titles I now know exist thanks to this great website.

My reasons for collecting now are as follows:

Titles that never hit DVD
Titles that have different versions/prints on Laserdisc (an awful lot), Star Wars Trilogy springs to mind
That awesome box art, CDs, artwork, books etc
Nostalgia!

The LDDB will be very, very useful for research on titles I want to own and keeping track of what I have/want to get. It'll be nice to chat LD with you folks also and to contribute where ever I can.

Also, collect them because they look damn good. With the right player and display you have a real film on your hands. Actually it's become more difficult for me to watch dvd and blu ray. With the new stuff I have no choice and get what enjoyment I can from it. A well mastered LD is a wild viewing experience.
