![]() Hi! I'm Thomas, but out there I prefer to be called Gorkab, as it has been my alias for more than 15 years now This is the first I actually come here, though I've been an LDDB member for already 7 years, and made some great purchases with some of you out there, including LDDB's founder (thanks again mate!) I've been an LD fan for more than 20 years now (I was born in 1986) as it was with that video format that my father made me discover stereo sound on a home system, with the almighty Jurassic Park, years after its release in 1993. But it was only in 2010, when I was looking for some old games in a flea market, that I came across two beautiful French LD editions of the Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition and The Abyss, both in original version with subtitles. I got them both for only 10€ at the time, and only a month later, I would have my very first own LD player for 50€ more: a Pioneer CLD-D515 that I still use to this day (SCART, no s****y composite) And as I'm currently doing a series of videos on the origins of computer graphics in movies, simply called CGM, LaserDisc is simply THE video format of choice, as there is still some incredible discs and bonuses that have never been made available either on DVD or Blu-ray. Take, for instance, CGI in SFX, or the incredible collection of commercials The World of Robert Abel. They are not available anywhere else to this day! It's the same with the movie LENSMAN, which is the second Japanese animated feature film with computer generated images, it's not available with a decent quality anywhere but on LaserDisc! So thank you all for keeping the ol' discs alive, for I am a proud owner and supporter of a dead video format too! PS: I also digitize a lot of LDs, using a simple SCART to HDMI upscaler that makes miracles. Check for yourselves here |

Welcome, welcome! Really cool series you got there. Guess I'll watch through it, nice to have English subtitles! Have you checked out the Dream Machine "Voyager Collection"? It's 3 LDs with all sorts of clips with old CGI. I digitized the first disc long ago. Don't think they're on DVD either. |
