I just saw that there was a fun place to introduce myself so I figured I'd say hello!
I have been into laserdiscs for 4 years or so now and only recently came across this site. I'm what I'm assuming is a younger collector on here- I'm 23. I have been into collecting records, 8tracks and cassettes since I was 15. The first time I saw a laserdisc was Christmas of 2001 at my rich friends house who's parents had a player since they came out and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation on laserdisc. They had always been in the back of my mind but it wasn't until I started working at a record store that sold them that I thought about buying any.
My entire collection of 100 plus laserdiscs came from my working at a local record store. The owner had decided that the laserdiscs were taking up too much space at the store and weren't selling fast enough so he had me load well over 500 discs into my pt cruiser to donate to goodwill. I asked him if I could have some and he said I could take whatever I wanted so I picked through the lot and I had an instant collection. He gave me a good deal ($20!) on the last player he had at the store, a pioneer cld-d406 and I've been loving laserdiscs ever since. It wasn't until this year when eBay, goodwill, and Craigslist began to fail me with title selection that I started thinking there must be other people out there who like laserdiscs too! I seriously had no clue there were this many people!!
This site has been really fun and a wealth of knowledge for me- I'm pretty handy but I never would have figured out how to fix that stupid U1 code without this forum! And it's really cool to be able to type in a movie and see if it even exists on laserdisc.
I'm really glad I found this place!
