Hi there, I just realized that there is finally a forum for the LDDB. How great is that ?I´m from Germany, collecting discs since 1997. My first player (which i recently bought back from a friend, lucky me...) was a Pioneer CLD 315 with AC-3 output, bought back in 1997 (together with a Pal LD Braveheart and a centerspeaker for my first surround set-up, hey, I still remember that). Though it was in the last days of LaserDisc, it was maybe the best time I had collecting movies. While DVD still took some time to reach the masses, I completely focused on LaserDiscs. A year later I bought a (nearly) brandnew Pioneer CLD 925 from a guy who completely switched to DVD. I own this unit till this day. Well, I still buy LaserDiscs from time to time and to quote one of the slogans " buying now what we couldn´t afford back then", I love to spend money on rare stuff which was, back then, much too expensive. Just today I received my copy of THE KILLER 3-Disc Criterion Edition and its like christmas, watching the cover, putting it into the collection. No other Format can compete with that... Ok, thats also the cause that I´m here now, adding the title to my collection and realizing the FORUM Button. I hope to meet some nice people here, some that are as old fashioned as me, who still ike to spend their money on this dinosaur medium..

Hello exinferis, exinferis?? - is that latin for something From ''EVENT HORIZON'' ? Welcome to this forum Friend it's great to have you here. I enjoyed reading your post and could Genuinely relate to your fondness of this format, for when purchasing a laserdisc you feel as though, you have bought into an experience and not just a format. I am still trying to purchase some 24+ rare titles from a seller, who has these reserved for me, a good deposit is in place so now I need to get round to finishing this order..........THAT WILL TRULY BE A GREAT DAY WHEN THEY ARRIVE! I shall look forward to correspoding with yourself at some stage sir' Sincerest welcome

What a warm welcome thank you ! Yep, thats what the captain of the ship tells the anxious viewer of the videorecording..you made your homework benmbe You describe it very well, as an experience, not a format. Another user here stated " you don´t own a film as long as you don´t have it on LD" (or so...)..with all the growing DRM and whatever they put on todays media (and not to forget what they don´t put on - like beautiful covers), I definitely say, this was the best a collector could get from a bought media in every way. Today I just received another order I did, the "DEAD RINGERS" Criterion Box w/short..wonderful. Opening the parcel alone is a bit like christmas (maybe it´s that, to get a glimpse of childhood, when collecting LDs..in a psychological aspect). So, hopefully the day will come soon for your monsterparcel to arrive, savor the moment, best greetings

Well, I´m here now, and I have the feeling that this forum could be BIG ( ast least in terms of a medium long gone). I´m very glad that you Julien decided to go go that way, thank you
