Hi everybody!

I've started collecting LDs about 4 months ago, mainly because of the sound. My main focus are music LDs with analog tracks, but also I'm planning to collect some of the banned german movie issues. I've bought a Pioneer CLD-D925 in a very good condition, it's hooked to a 4K LG TV via composite connection (no upscaler in-between, LG does quite a good job). By now I already have about 70 discs with about 40 more on the wish list :) It looks and sounds great together with my vinyl collection!

I've read a lot of discussions regarding upscalers, but have decided to go with built-in TV's capabilities for now. If somebody can recommend optimal settings for an OLED 4K LG, I would appreciate it!

Cheers from Berlin!!!

Hi,

enjoy the LD format & good luck in your disc hunt.

The CLD-D925 is a great player - of course there are "better" players but the 925 does everything well & has been my main player for a number of years now.

Cheers.

Hi and Welcome.

On the 925 I think it's worth trying the s-video output (if your TV has an s-video input). LD might be a natively composite format but most later model players separate Y/C early on in the processing chain and then the composite output is a recombination of that. For me the s-video out of the 925 gives the better result.

Perhaps this comment from an old review gives a clue as to why "One curious aspect is the rather tortuous route the video processing goes through to get to both the composite and the S-Video outputs (all discs come in composite video flavour). The composite signal retrieved from disc enters the digital domain, goes through the frame-store stage, gets filtered into RGB, and is then converted into separate luma and chroma for the S-Video output. The composite video output is simply the separated chroma and luma of the S-Video output combined." (http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laserdisc_archive/pioneer/pioneer_cld-d925/cld-d925.htm)

My TV doesn't have the S-Video input, so this is not an option to try out :(

But thanks for the suggestion!

What about SCART? You can easily get a SCART adapter with an S-video connector.
