Everything I heard about HK has lead me to believe that there should be someone there who would care about this guys LD collection and would love to come over and watch it with him.

OP might just be letting us know he's still around. I'm not evil enough to say "still alive", but you know, not arrested or in hospital.

Alive and dying??

That's one of the best lines in this film and I've even used it in person.

Oh come on Mr Cynipants; care you not, but the presentation really is quite spectacular! I'll wager me having more HV titles in total, but since it's mostly more strictly alphabetical order around here {no keeping the gold(ish) spines together just cos they're gold(..ish)} the presentation isn't so pretty. Functionality over superficial prettiness for me every time but meh;; each to their own.

Hi Faiwu,

Where do you source your polybags for those large box sets? Thanks

The only way I can see being impressed with a bunch of LDs on a shelf is if you’ve never been to a museum of any quality whatsoever. It’s just mass media; even the “rare” stuff was made by the thousands and very very little of it is MUSE-only so it’s mostly just dirt common stuff in a weird uncommon format. Furthermore, all this guy did was buy stuff. I’m not polishing his knob for that and that seems to be what he wants since he contributes nothing but photos.

Maybe he is the Michael Jordan of buying LDs. And yes I remember you using a line about the MJ of buying things in a previous rant. Might have been on pcefx.

I guess that’s my issue. I question that a Michael Jordon of LD buying is a thing someone can be. I’m pretty sure they just buy it like anyone else. It’s not like you have to climb a mountain and see a guru about your 25th version of T2. They’ve got friggn bar codes, not exactly a brand of exclusivity.

I confess, I can feel the rise of one of the seven deadly sins: ENVY !
Come on, I never saw a collection like this, this stuff looks pristine, it´s awesome.

I don't collect LD and probably wont as I collect HD DVD and Blu-ray, but I must confess this indeed looks nice. The best word to describe it is probably Cool! :)

Also I don't understand the complains at someone showing off a collection. If you are not interested you do not need to read the post and/or look at the images. I am sure you can find some text based website without picture so you wont be affected by the views of a cool collection.

Post subject:  Re: My MUSE LD collection

Well, by the exact same logic....I don’t see the point in complaining about complaining about showing off a collection. Surely there is a place on the Internet there are all pics and no critical thinking/text. You don’t have to read my posts any more than I have to look at his pics, genius. There, I have created a mirror image of your post and now we’ve jointly said absolutely nothing of value.

And yeah, maybe I broke the guys heart with my cruelty but posting pictures of some stuff you bought is not exactly injecting happiness in the world. In many cases it’s the opposite. He’s probably working 80 hours a week to pay for these movies he doesn’t watch.

I need to chime in and hopefully someone will give me a good answer so I can finally sleep at night.

Why is it that these 30-48 year old collectors need to have their collections look like a store????
All of these video game collections I've seen pictures of look like the stores I used to buy games at when I was a kid.

Why do you want a room in your house or apartment look like a mini store from the 90s 00s where you can't play anything and enjoy it but
keep it sealed.

I do understand the collection of stuff like toys where you get more value having it sealed but this media/technology collections and other things
Even sneaker collections, closets look like a foot locker or sports authority. WHY????????

Because when they were kids they had no money and the only real connection they have with the stuff is from sitting in stores looking at packages wishing they had it. That wishing state is where they’d are still stuck. People who were fortunate enough to be in the position to buy it don’t have this experience so they are often more well adjusted and just buy what they want to watch instead of trying to “complete the collection” which itself wasn’t even a thing until 2000 or so.

Seriously, the idea of “completing a collection” is totally foreign to me. All the New Order 12”s on Factory? Sure. Every UK pressing of a Beatles album? I get it. But every NES game? Including 345 unplayably bad ones? Every MUSE disc including Twins? Fffff...why on Earth?

Post subject:  Re: My MUSE LD collection

@signo... don’t have twins yet but I want it :) Arnold is in it. Sorry ;)

@rein.. I think once your collection goes over 1000 titles your media room looks like a store anyways. I am sure there are some who intentionally design their media room that way but others with vast collections maybe did not have such intentions.

Full set collecting if a pretty soulless experience I would imagine.

@reino: Not sure exactly what you mean. I've got most of my stuff on shelves with the spine facing out. It's the best way I could think of to do it, and gives me easy access. Though things I am currently playing and things I play frequently I just kind of leave out by the consoles.

Well then I want my room to look like the Louvre rather than game-action on 14th st.

Its not about LDs but when you have them as the flip style like an LP store.
I'll have to search up pics later.

Post subject:  Re: My MUSE LD collection

There are for sure fans who literally buy store shelving and put it in their stupid mancaves. It’s much more common with gamers who buy old KMart and EB signage and put it in the same nerd coffin of a room that houses uncomfortable to play SNES demo kiosks from Target 1991. I have seen at least one LD fan with a room like this. Old “Laserdisc” stuff and all the shelves done record store style so you can flip through them. I don’t remember who posted those pics but it may not have been on this forum. That particular room wasn’t too stupid I guess since that is a way easier way to sort through your collection than bookending it but it also takes up about 20x the space so once again it’s more about having a trade show booth replica or time machine to Dave’s Laser than it is about the movies or quality home theater experience.

I can see having a huge arcade and filling it with period whatever but arcades are in fact the thing that one uses. Games still in boxes or mint condition shoes do not represent anything but worship of things over experiences. Playing basketball is way cooler than collecting basketball shoes.
