Hello folks. Just stopped back to the site to check some info on some of my LDs and see there now is a forum.

I purchased my almost my 1200+ LD collection from a few local thrift stores between 2008 and the present. Kind of an accomplishment I think considering LDs are very uncommon around here, and I've probably seen only 10 players cross the market locally in as many years (many of which I purchased as backups).

I only have 570 or so titles in the database, most from a bunch dropped off at Goodwill about 2 years ago that I added when I got them before putting them in the cabinets. Unfortunately my wife got ambitious on one of her days off and made a comprehensive list and location of all movies in the cabinets by shelf (since they're not alphabetized or anything as I had too many to undertake that project with ease by the point of buying the cabinets), and I never updated the catalog since. At least its not all bad, I have comprehensive lists of all the movies and can just search my own lists to find a movie.

Recently got my friend hooked on this and got 100 LDs, mostly more common stuff I already have, gave him a spare player and he is on the Laserdisc hunt too.

Welcome,

Glad to have another passionate collector jump on here. 1200 in 3-4 years is pretty impressive. Congratulations.

Good Morning from the UK man114,

Good to have another collector here.

I suppose the fact that Julien added the forum to this site, was an inevitable addition and one which would open communications with members that would otherwise not have corresponded.

Now Laserdisc collectors and enthusiast's have a central point ''as it were'' to share advice, experiences, technical details ect, and generally get to know each other more.

I look foreward to corresponding with yourself at some stage.

Take good care of yourself

Sincere Regards

A little more on this. Thrift stores were a bit of luck really. They're always mostly bare. Might get an occasional 5-10 or so (actually got a couple on a Rochester road trip a few weeks back, guess its not always totally bare) and you'll go months without seeing any.

Most of the collection was a couple of seperate hauls.

Someone was donating to a Salvation Army, I watched the stack grow to almost 150 LDs before I lowballed them on the whole lot and they sold them all me for $50 (again a player on here is uncommon).

Bought another 150 disc collection from someone on craigslist including a player for $50 or so.

Picked up another 20 or so spread out at other thrift stores over the course of a year.

My girlfriend at the time (now my wife), bought 50 on ebay for $25, mostly random comedy movies after I gave her a player.

Over the course of a year after that the guy who donated the original 150 LDs started dropping off 10-20 LDs per week at Salvation army so I kept buying them on a weekly basis. Collection by the time these ran out was pushing 700.

Went to one goodwill and found 50 LDs for $.25 a piece. Cashier tells me that every one in the area was getting a batch from a collection someone had donated, so I got about 50 at each, except for one that somehow ended up with 125 or so (filled almost the entire back seat of the car). Following this haul I had something in the range of 1190 due to passed on duplicates.

My friend who bought the duplicates I passed on, started collecting and lowballed a guy at a flea market to sell him 100-150 LDs (he didn't count) for $75 (he'd been asking $5+). He gave me the duplicates from that batch leading to the 1200. I actually picked up about 10 in the past few weeks two music sampler discs and a few odd learning and science ones, also from thrift stores (including the few from Rochester).

If my count is correct the total now is 1214.
