I use only S-VIDEO output. It is important what you will do after... For comparison 2 files before and after (if you will see a difference, the same technology for LD)

it doesn't mean I do everything in 4K, it is just for web
Interesting. One of the first things I learned here is that S-video will give you a signal processed by the LD player's own comb filter whereas composite will give you closer to raw or pure analogue video.
Why wouldn't you use the composite for your purposes?

I used references laserdisc for compassion composite and s-video outputs, s-video gives me more sharper picture and better colors. That's why I use it.

I picked up a S-Video/AV to USB thing, I'm going to work on recording some of the rarer laserdiscs I have, like the Ford Dealership ones, or the recorded blanks I have.
I'm hoping to have everything uploaded by next week or so, pending if this tool actually works.

That's interesting. So the common wisdom here may be wrong for a lot of players?

From my understanding its about how old your player is and video processing inside said player for S-Video over Yellow video composite.
Personally I have to test and use which I like better than the other, also for the unit of TV, Projector etc.

That's a cool before and after example you posted. What's your process to get the video looking like that? Do you do anything besides deinterlacing and upscaling? What about for your MIB video?

Yes exactly I do some operation , but this information not for public explanation, sorry. Work with different type of noise, and more.
Would you mind sharing what program you use to do the captures? I got the device that plugs into my computer, but the program included doesn't work very well in terms of audio capture and is also somehow play the audio 4 times at once.
Here, I uploaded the raw footage I took, recorded with OBS with the LD streaming into my computer using AmaRecTV and AmaMix, I didn't bother editing any of this as the audio makes it pretty much useless. I think I found a better program to use other than the included software, but I'm probably not testing it until I grab some longer AV cables tomorrow, for some reason all I can find is 3ft ones around the house. LOUD NOISE WARNING AT THE BEGINNING AND THE :40 MARK

It's just a AV/S-Video to USB thing meant to be used for VHS conversions. I got it working better with a different program now. I just need the time to record everything and upload it.
I watched through the recorded Laserdiscs I picked up recently, I'll only be digitizing two of them as one of them "the Voyager encounters" seemed to have been a museum program, and NASA has a highlight reel without the freeze frame photos up on their YouTube channel.
The other two I couldn't find anywhere else, and about half the Ford Laserdiscs aren't either so I'm excited to share them, hopefully twords the end of this week.
I prefer to use professional hardware and software with it. For example black magic capture card.
I tried capturing using my Elgato capture card I got a number of years ago, but I found this $10 device to have less stutter and I can run S-Video on it.
I'm hoping to have a much better recording later today using the new software, hopefully the audio issues are fixed. I'm not super interested in restoration of the video, I just want it up somewhere public so it exists somewhere other than my living-room.
Work in progress right now, I got everything rigged up.
I'm curious about this $10 USB capture device actually. Would you say recording via s-video gives you videos that appear better than say DVD quality, around the same or worse? Also is the audio messed up?

Check out the thread I created, I uploaded a full LD capture for a PSA Kiosk Disc.
The device works perfectly with OBS alone, and the static you hear in the recording is purely from the disc, it sounded like that while watching it straight from my player as well.
I'll let you judge if it's better than DVD quality.
